France Télévisions

Qvest Media has developed and implemented the new media archive infrastructure for France Télévisions. The systems architect and integrator was also responsible for migrating data into the system.

The Paris-based public broadcaster France Télévisions wanted to integrate a centralized and secure system for its news production archive. The new infrastructure is based on a fully scalable, cloud-based S3 object storage system, which ensures that data is permanently available and immediately accessible for sharing.

The main priorities for Qvest Media’s team of experts were to replace the previous archiving system with minimal impact on the existing infrastructure, ensure operational transparency and guarantee a smooth data migration. It was also necessary to integrate the solution into existing business processes and support cloud-based backup functions.

RING SDS, key to integration

The infrastructure designed by Qvest Media uses Scality’s RING SDS (software-defined storage) based multisite solution. RING, the integrator claims, guarantees performance in terms of throughput and latency, scalability, reliability, data integrity and a high level of availability with the ability for multiple native interfaces. On the other hand, it also enables integrated hybrid data management functions that allow France Télévisions to use cloud services.

In parallel, Qvest Media carried out the data migration through Cloudfirst.io’s Rapid Migrate. This platform, which is already being used by “leading North American media groups,” has delivered “outstanding performance” according to France Télévisions and Qvest Media. The second phase of the transformation process will extend the service to the network’s regional archives in France, as well as to its other sites abroad.

Skander Ben Attia, engineering director at France Télévisions, is impressed “not only by Qvest Media’s technical expertise, but also by their innovative approach to the data migration, which was handled fully remotely.” “The level of management experience with major international projects was of huge value to us,” he adds. On the other hand, Françoise Semin, Qvest Media’s European sales director, expresses “our deep gratitude” to France Télévisions for having placed its trust in the company: “We are delighted that we were able to work together with them so successfully on the first project of this type in France.”
