Avid unveils next generation of Nexis storage system: F-series and VFS

O Ávido Nexis storage system gets a cloud-first makeover with the new F-series storage engine family and VFS virtual file system.

The new Avid Nexis F-series solutions enable media production teams of all sizes to work from anywhere, providing secure, remote access to media assets and metadata through online, nearline, cloud and archive storage. With performance that can reach more than 30 gigabytes per second, this new family of storage engines aims to be a scalable solution that naturally adapts to every business, new projects, remote collaboration and downtime.

This new generation of Avid Nexis shared storage systems, which provides latency and lag-free storage for real-time and collaborative workflows, is complemented by the Avid Nexis Pro+ solution for smaller collaborative teams. This development enables companies to optimise file management across the entire content lifecycle: ingest, editing, finishing, backup, reuse and archiving.

Avid Nexis VFS

As the brain of the F-series and Pro+, the completely reimagined Avid Nexis VFS is capable of virtualising the storage of a pool of shared resources to accelerate collaborative media workflows. This system allows users to deploy Avid Nexis storage on-premises, in the cloud or as a SaaS solution, simplifying their ability to collaborate from anywhere, as well as adapt and grow their business in today’s media production landscape.

Avid Nexis VFS software also has built-in intelligence to automate tasks and enable Avid Nexis F-series storage to adapt to changing workloads without user intervention. From dynamic reallocation of storage capacity e bandwidth optimisation to protection with automatic drive rebuild, VFS aims to provide the agile environment and reliability required for 24×7 operations.

In parallel, Avid Nexis VFS also facilitates collaboration and rapid delivery of results, regardless of the video, audio, news, sports, graphics or news production tools being used. “Hundreds of users” can simultaneously browse, find and share media and projects from anywhere, keeping their organisation’s entire content library and archive “within easy reach.”

Subscription models

The new Avid Nexis F-series e Avid Nexis VFS are available on a subscription model through the Avid Nexis Flex purchase plan. This model allows users to “gain the financial benefits of an OPEX business model” while simplifying their ability to migrate from a traditional, hardware-based storage deployment to the cloud or SaaS environment.

Avid Nexis Flex also enables media teams to combine their other Avid subscription solutions, such as Media Composer e MediaCentral, providing an all-in-one OPEX engagement with Avid.
