Option Media setzt auf Fairlight-Tools in DaVinci Resolve Studio

Fairlight from DaVinci Resolve Studio (Blackmagic-Design) is now part of the workflow of the Belgian post-production studio Option Media.

After studying the market, Option Media, a company with multiple 5.1 and Dolby Atmos mixing rooms, has decided to rely on this set of solutions for both audio post-production and image finishing. In the words of Bart Vanvoorden, senior sound recordist at Option Media: “Fairlight is far and away one of the best tools for audio post available today. Its ability to easily import or borrow media from other timelines or projects is unmatched. No other audio post software offers this level of flexibility.”

Frank van Caesbroeck, production manager at Option Media, explains how their transition to Fairlight was forged: “We’ve always found the Fairlight approach more logical than that of its competitors.” Other key factors that led him to choose Fairlight include its integration with DaVinci Resolve Studio and the versatility it offers in using different file formats: “The ability to search and audition different takes, and the simplified process of rendering files for evaluation due to our integrated audio and video workflows, is a significant advantage.”

The transition to a dynamic workflow based on DaVinci Resolve Fairlight tools was straightforward. All of the new systems run on Windows 11 computers with DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G capture and playback cards, as well as Fairlight Audio Accelerator PCIe cards and Fairlight Audio interfaces.

Blackmagic Cloud on Option Media

Beyond moving to Fairlight solutions, Option Media has begun to leverage cloud capabilities to add flexibility to its post-production processes using Blackmagic Cloud. As van Caesbroeck explains: “In the beginning, we utilized standard file transfer tools like WeTransfer for moving our projects. However, we now host any project media that needs sharing with remote locations directly on the Blackmagic Cloud Store 20TB, with Dropbox syncing in the background.”

Thanks to this working dynamic, any new audio clips that are recorded or rendered are automatically synced across all Option Media locations. “With the integration of Blackmagic Cloud and the network attached storage, we can now edit, pre mix and complete the final mix in a studio at Option Media, without the need to physically move media or projects,” explains the post production manager.

Some of Option Media’s recent projects using DaVinci Resolve Studio and Fairlight-based workflows include the nature documentary series Our Nature, the animated series Interstellar Ella, and television shows such as Geldwolven Und F>* You Very, Very Much (seasons one and two).
