Ikegami HDK-73

Oman TV has decided to integrate Ikegami‘s HDK-73 camera systems and Hi-Motion II slow motion solution into its new mobile unit.

The new vehicle, which operates from Oman TV’s headquarters in the capital Muscat, will be used for live coverage of sporting, cultural and news events throughout the sultanate. The equipment was supplied by Ikegami Electronics Europe through local integrator Al Nemer Al Aswad, based in Muscat.

The refurbishment undertaken at Oman TV has been created to maximize production quality and operational versatility. As the chief engineer of Oman TV’s mobile unit department relates, it was clear from the outset that he would opt for Ikegami solutions: “We have had very good experience with Ikegami equipment over the years, both in terms of product specification and proven reliability, backed by a high level of support from the Ikegami ME team.”

The mobile unit’s six HDK-73 HDR-compatible cameras can be mounted on a pedestal for use with long-range telescopic lenses, mounted on a tripod in specific locations, or shoulder-mounted for casual close-ups such as player interviews. Image capture is accomplished with 2/3-inch, 2.6 megapixel CMOS sensors, each capable of capturing 1920 x 1080 resolution images with an “extremely wide” dynamic range of over 600%, high sensitivity (F13 at 50 Hz) and a high signal-to-noise ratio.

The mobile unit likewise integrates Ikegami BS-98 fiber optic transmission links to the OCP-300 operator control panels inside the vehicle. To complement the HDK-73, Oman TV has decided to use the Hi-Motion II camera.

Developed in conjunction with NAC Image Technology, Ikegami’s Hi-Motion II delivers broadcast-quality slow-motion images. The camera employs three 1920 x 1080 resolution CMOS sensors and has a standard B4 lens mount. Highlights include simultaneous recording and playback (96 gigabytes), up to 1,000 frames per second 1920 x 1080 capture, integral shutter, full remote control, flicker suppression, and EVS compatibility via an LSM panel.
