Blackmagic - Nouvelle Vague - Japan

Un large choix de Magie noire solutions, including the Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 and Studio Camera 4K Pro, serve as the backbone of the new studio of the Japanese company Nouvelle Vague.

Noob.st is the name of the Nouvelle Vague new production studio, located in the special Shibuya region. Aimed especially at live streaming, the space features a large LED screen, which facilitates virtual productions with visual effects integrated into the cameras and remote broadcasting of content via IP protocol.

The production company decided to integrate this new studio after detecting an increase in demand for studios specialising in streaming workflows. Masayoshi Ikeda, VP of Nouvelle Vague, elaborates: “When we first started planning this project, we had a simpler studio in mind, but when we considered the possibility of bringing audiences into the studio in the future, we realized a green screen studio would not accommodate that. In that respect, an XR studio can be viable with an audience in it, and it will look even better for streaming. We have also designed the studio to allow remote production without the need for a conventional OB truck.”

To date, the facility has already been used for various broadcasts for internet TV platforms, corporate events and children’s programmes: “Virtual production using XR technology with CG instead of lighting and stage design in the studio leads to lower production costs, and many of our clients are taking advantage of that.”

Le Nouvelle Vague virtual production studio features four URSA Diffusion G2 cameras with URSA Studio Viewfinder G2 viewfinders, plus Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter et Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter units, as well as an ATEM Camera Control Panel to manipulate the URSA Broadcast G2 models from the auxiliary control room. A second studio for green backdrop compositing includes four Caméra Blackmagic Studio 4K Pro models, equipped with Blackmagic Zoom Demand et Blackmagic Focus Demand devices for adjusting focus and lens focal length from a tripod. The facility also has an ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K mixer and ATEM Camera Control Panel et ATEM Studio Converter devices.

Ikeda chose Conception Blackmagic cameras because of their “quality and price”, as well as the fact that the production company “had previously streamed a live concert with a Blackmagic Design workflow, including Blackmagic cameras. Even though the models are different, we were familiar with using Blackmagic cameras, which was another reason we chose them for the new studio.”

“Many of our customers want to use our services at an affordable price while maintaining broadcast quality, so Blackmagic Design products are helping us create a studio that meets their needs,” concludes Ikeda.
