The Argentine vice president, Amado Boudou, and the Minister of Industry, Débora Giorgi, received the Directv authorities who handed them the first decoders produced for this company, and which are made by national companies.

Argentina is already the first country in the region that will produce set-top-boxes. With an investment of 10 million dollars, DirecTv has begun to manufacture decoders in Tierra del Fuego and in just three months they have managed to produce 70,000 units. DirecTV plans to manufacture 1,200,000 decoders during 2012.

For his part, Boudou highlighted the positive impact that the local production of decoders will have on the level of employment, regarding which he recalled that "since 2003 there has been a political project that wants to create more and more jobs."

“We are going to continue deepening the model, and we want consumption and investment to be the keys to strengthening economic development and continuing to advance in import substitution,” said Boudou.

Meanwhile, Giorgi pointed out that "we have a domestic market with growing demand and that is why companies in all sectors are making productive investments, in line with our objective that this market be supplied with national production, local work and substituting imports."

The companies that are currently in charge of manufacturing Directv decoders partnered with national firms Newsan and BGH to implement the industrial process.
