Wavebreak develops a revolutionary system capable of fine-tuning the measurement to such an extent that it not only reports the channel being watched at a given moment, but even if the television is connected with no one in the room, how many people (differentiating between men, women, adults or children) are watching the television or how many of them are present in the room without looking at the screen or asleep.

Broadcasters and advertisers complain daily about the reliability of audience measurement systems. Measurement tools and methods are currently highly ineffective and dependent on active public participation.

Due to the proliferation of channels and platforms, it is inevitable to delve deeper into the habits and profiles of viewers. With this objective, the Israeli company WaveBreak is developing technologies that automatically track the real-time presence of consumers in front of the television, reporting their exact situation.

The television market is undergoing important changes with new technologies modifying the concept of the living room and allowing consumers to control the place and time of consumption. Despite all the advances in this area, the basic user interface of consumers with television remains the same and has not changed drastically over the last decade.

Now WaveBreak aims to change this and enable a new, personalized viewing experience for the customer as well as greater control, sophistication and choice for both the television provider and the viewer themselves.

To do this, it has developed a system that consists of a small device, equipped with a camera and ultrasonic sensors, which is installed in the homes that will form the analysis panel. By installing this device, the broadcaster or audience measurement company enters the profile of each member that makes up the family unit into a database. From there, the solution automatically sends real-time information about viewer behavior.

It is capable of fine-tuning its measurement to such a point that it not only reports the channel being watched at a given moment, but even whether the television is connected with no one in the room or how many people (differentiating between men, women, adults or children) are watching the television or how many of them are present in the room without looking at the screen or asleep.

From there, a series of tools in the hands of the broadcaster or the audiometry company processes all the information, crossing it with the profile databases, obtaining an exact x-ray of the typology of the audience and their behavior in the commercial blocks.

It is noteworthy that Wavebreak's system never transmits images but rather data, preserving the rights of viewers.

This solution, apart from the service to broadcasters and audiometry companies, could provide the viewer with some value-added services related to social networks (checking which friends are 'online' in front of the television), energy saving (turning off the screen when no one is looking at it), commerce (user identification), video conferencing, games (without remote control)...

Founded in 2007, Wavebreak will debut at IBC in the Israel pavilion.
