The prime-time night of Monday, October 25, has been a true duel of titans in national fiction with Antena 3 facing the premiere of the series Spain with the first installment of the miniseries Felipe and Letizia, duty and love. Finally, the Bourbon love story attracted an average of 4,270,000 viewers and a 20.9% share compared to the 4,768,000 viewers (22.7%) who opted for the Hispanic and Roman Antena 3 without a single cut. advertising.

Produced by Brutal Media, the Catalan filmmaker Joaquín Oristrell (Goya for Best Original Screenplay for All men are the same and Biznaga de Plata from the Malaga Film Festival for Best Screenplay for Sin vergu¨enza) directs this fiction in which Amaia Salamanca (Without tits there is no paradise, Brain drain) plays Letizia, Fernando Gil (Spanish Movie, The Suicide Club) plays Felipe and Marisa Paredes (The flower of my secret, Far heels) and Juanjo Puigcorbé (The Escorial conspiracy, Pepe Carvalho) give life to Kings Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, respectively.

Shot in Madrid and Barcelona, Felipe and Letizia addresses the difficulties that the couple faced in ensuring that the young woman from Oviedo, who was a commoner and divorced, was accepted by the Royal Family and the most conservative sectors of Spanish society.

Filming

Emblematic enclaves of Barcelona have been chosen to recreate the romance of the Princes of Asturias, whose filming lasted a total of six weeks and also included various locations in the Madrid capital.

The Catalan locations are completed by the Moja Palace, a building that hosted the sequence of the couple's meeting at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo on the occasion of the Prince of Asturias Awards ceremony, and a penthouse in the upper area of the city, in the that the dinner organized by Pedro Erquicia in which the protagonists met was filmed.

Furthermore, the production team Felipe and Letizia has moved to Madrid to record various transition sequences in the Palacio de Oriente, the Teatro Real, Gran Vía, the streets of Valdebernardo and the M-30, among other places.

In this fiction, the Albéniz Palace, official residence of the Spanish Royal Family during their stays in Barcelona, has represented the exteriors of the Zarzuela, while the interior of the Madrid palace has been recreated in two different enclaves: a mansion in the upper area of Barcelona and the Bell Recó mansion in the town of Argentona. Prince Felipe's residence has been simulated in the Villa Bugatti in Cabrera de Mar, while a home in Hospitalet de Llobregat has recreated Letizia Ortiz's maiden apartment in the Madrid neighborhood of Valdebernardo.

Characterization and costumes

Honey-colored contact lenses, a change in hair tone and makeup that enhances the angle of the face have been the main elements used by the makeup and hairdressing team to characterize Amaia Salamanca as Letizia Ortiz.

As for the costumes of the fiction, a total of 400 costumes have been used, of which 50 have been worn by the protagonist couple. Among Amaia Salamanca's 25 outfits, five stand out that recreate with absolute fidelity the outfits that the princess once wore: the bridal dress and the Hellenic tiara from her wedding, the white Armani suit from the proposal, the model that She wore it when she covered the Prince of Asturias Awards as a journalist and the outfits worn at 11-M and at the Teatro Real, when she accompanied the Queen to a performance of “Tosca.”

Regarding the wardrobe of Fernando Gil, Juanjo Puigcorbé and Marisa Paredes, the styling team of the TV movie has replicated the suits that the Prince and the Kings wore at the wedding and at the engagement.

One year of work

Twelve months of pre-production and exhaustive documentation work in newspaper archives and audiovisual documentary archives have been necessary to prepare the script. Other unofficial sources have also been used that have provided details about how the romance developed and the functioning of the complex machinery that surrounds the Royal Family in matters such as protocol, the security service or the communication team.

A total of 250 hours of recording, 151 sequences and 250 extras are some of the figures for this 151-minute television movie. One of the greatest difficulties that the production team faced was the recording of a sequence of the Royal Family at the Marivent Palace, in which a heavy downpour altered the day's shooting plan.

Of the fleet of cars used during filming, four stand out in particular: a Rolls Royce Phantom IV, as the official vehicle for the wedding of the Princes of Asturias; a SEAT Ibiza, like the Asturian journalist's utility vehicle; an Aston Martin, Felipe's private car, and a Mercedes Benz E-270, official vehicle of the Kings of Spain.

For Telecinco, Pepa Sánchez-Biezma has been the executive producer, while for Brutal Media it has been in the hands of Pau Calpe and Raimon Masllorens with Goretti Pagès in production direction. Pep Armengol has been in charge of casting direction and Soledad Seseña has been in charge of art direction.
