The next-generation content delivery network (CDN) solution from Qwilt y Cisco, Open Caching, will improve digital streaming experiences for customers on two continents powered by Vodafone.

After a successful test in Italy, Vodafone will start deploying the service Open Caching in seven countries in Europe and Africa. This deployment of services will progressively increase as Qwilt y Cisco Work with other service providers around the world with the goal of creating “the largest federated CDN” in the world. In the words of the companies, this impulse will be backed by a footprint of global and coherent cloud that will benefit content publishers, service providers and clients.

The solution, composed of the platform Open Edge of Qwilt and technology Edge of Cisco, provides quality content delivery by bringing the caching and the content delivery to the edge of the network. A possible application of this service in the professional environment would be content editing: With this system, users can start working quickly and use the joint solution to deliver content closer to users, “significantly improving viewing quality.”

The Open Caching model will also allow Vodafone to expand the business opportunities to other content and application owners, who in turn will gain higher quality access to the millions of customers who use Vodafone's fast and reliable networks. Giorgio Migliarina, director of products and services at Vodafone Business, highlights that this alliance will result in less buffering y lower latency services for the end user. “In addition, by using open caching, we can more easily scale the service to meet the growing demands of live streaming, video on demand and application services, while providing content providers with a standardized platform built on open APIs in multiple countries in Europe and Africa,” the executive emphasizes.
