Brainstorm - Canon - Sistema de producción virtual - Virtual Production System

The Canon Virtual Production System will feature native support from Brainstorm, which can be discovered through various demos at IBC 2025 (September 12–15).

This development adds full compatibility with Canon’s proprietary CV metadata via the CV Protocol to Brainstorm’s virtual production product line, led by InfinitySet. This allows InfinitySet to receive accurate native lens and camera parameter data at all times, in real time, alongside the video signal, without the need for prior calibration. To achieve this compatibility, Brainstorm has collaborated closely with Canon.

Canon’s CV metadata technology is fully compatible with the OpenCV software library and includes high-impact proprietary extensions designed to improve performance and flexibility. As a contributor to SMPTE’s RIS OSVP initiative, Canon provides robust interoperability with the latest virtual production standards. The protocol transmits CV metadata, embedded in an easily readable JSON format, directly to InfinitySet, which adjusts the virtual scene according to camera and lens parameters.

The system supports zoom and prime lenses, and the precise linking of lens and camera data, including lens distortion mapping if necessary, facilitates the integration of live or recorded footage with the background and other synthetic objects in the scene. Even when a crop frame setting is applied, the lens and camera data automatically take this into account, allowing settings to be easily changed within the same scene without losing consistency or accuracy in the composition.

According to David Moldes, product manager at Brainstorm, “this native integration is about facilitating our clients’ work and save time and resources while prepping the scenes. Virtual production requires perfect matching of the real scene with what the camera captures, so being able to supply the most accurate and reliable camera and lens data to InfinitySet allows for quicker setups and more reliable virtual content creation”.
