Seven F32 DLP projectors from Projectiondesign form the basis of a 180-degree panoramic, immersive viewing installation launched by the Fraunhofer Institute in Berlin. Dedicated hardware allows image correction, creating a fluid transition between the different projectors, thus achieving a sensation of continuous and brilliant video.

Norwegian Projectiondesign has supplied seven F32 DLP projectors for the high-resolution 180-degree panoramic and immersive viewing installation that opened this weekend at the Fraunhofer HHI Time Lab in Berlin. The screen with a size of 3.35 x 12 meters has a special resolution of around 7,000 pixels and a brightness of around 28,000 lumens.

The projection of high-definition images in this installation is achieved thanks to a series of optical mirrors on a 180-degree curved screen. Dedicated hardware allows image correction, creating a fluid transition between the different projectors, thus achieving a sensation of continuous and brilliant video throughout the dozen meters of the screen. The system is backed by a Wave Field Synthesis (WFS) surround sound system.

Christian Wessig, from the Department of Image Processing at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Berlin, highlighted that "the objective of this installation is to allow digital cinema experts and prestigious directors, such as Tom Tykwer, to discover and immerse themselves in the fascination of digital cinema projection and video systems, involving them in the evolution and global economic challenges. In the case of visitors, they will experience a multimedia environment that full acoustic and visual experience in the broadcast of live events and a wide range of film formats. Our projection system is designed for the future and the fantastic image quality of Projectiondeisgn projectors has made the screen the centerpiece of the TiME HHI Laboratory.”
