The National Cinematography Award for 2015 has been awarded to film director Fernando Rodríguez Trueba. In its ruling, the jury argued that it is a “recognition of his indisputable professional career as a director, producer and screenwriter, in addition to his work in defense of the film profession since the beginning of his career as founder of the magazine Casablanca and as a critic in El País and the Leisure Guide”.

The jury also highlighted Trueba's "performance as president of the Film Academy" and "the international recognition that Spanish cinema has achieved thanks to the successes obtained by his films."

The National Cinematography Award is awarded by the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), an organization attached to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports and is endowed with 30,000 euros.

Jury

The Jury was chaired by Lorena González Olivares, General Director of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts; and Guadalupe Melgosa, deputy general director of Promotion and International Relations of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts, who acted as vice president. As members, the following have been present: at the proposal of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain, its president, Antonio Fernández Resines; by Literary Authors of Audiovisual Media, Alicia Luna López; by the Federation of Associations of Spanish Audiovisual Producers, Francisco José Martínez Sánchez; for the Union of Actors and Actresses, Ginés García Millán; by the Association of Audiovisual Directors and Producers (ARPA), Víctor García León and by the Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA), Patricia Ferreira Mañá. At the proposal of the ICAA: Concepción Casanovas Gou, Mikel Lejarza Ortiz and José Luis Rebordinos Miramón, with the presence of the winner in the previous call: Dolores Salvador Maldonado.

Director, screenwriter and producer

Fernando Rodríguez Trueba (Madrid, January 18, 1955), Spanish film director, screenwriter and producer, as well as a film critic, has a degree from the Faculty of Information Sciences of the Complutense University of Madrid.

In his filmography he became known with Debut (1980), his first film, and five years later, he achieved fame with the comedy Be unfaithful and don't look with who, starring, among others, Ana Belén, Carmen Maura and Antonio Resines. The following year it rolls The year of lights (1986), which would win a Silver Bear at the Berlin Festival.

In 1988 he was president of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain, and in 1989 he filmed The dream of the crazy monkey, starring actors Jeff Goldblum and Miranda Richardson.

In 1992 his film Belle Epoque It was awarded nine Goya awards: best film, best director and best actress (Ariadna Gil). A year later, this film was awarded the award for best foreign language film at the Hollywood Oscars.

His next job was directing Two Much, with Antonio Banderas, Melanie Griffith and Daryl Hannah. In 1998, Trueba achieved another resounding success with The girl of your eyes, a film starring Penélope Cruz that won seven Goyas, including 'Best Film'.

Among the director's latest works, we must highlight the musical-themed documentaries Calle 54 y The Miracle of Candeal, and the animated film Boy and Rita, which was nominated for an Oscar and The artist and the model.
