European Film Awards - They Shot the Pianist - The Sultana's Dream - RTVE - animation

The European Film Academy has advanced the candidates for the Best Animated Film category for its 2024 edition, which includes two Spanish works participated by RTVE: 'They shot the pianist' (Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal) and 'The sultana's dream' (Isabel Herguera).

The sultana's dream, produced by Sultana Film, El Gatoverde producciones, Abano Producións, Uniko, y Fabian & Fred, is a fantastic drama that tells the story of Inés, a 30-year-old Spanish animation director who is in Ahmedabad to break up with her Indian lover. By chance she enters a bookstore where she discovers Sultana's Dream, a novel by Rokeya Hossain about an imaginary country ruled by women. Fascinated by the story and the transgressive attitude of the author, she decides to make a film.

On the other hand, They shot the pianist, a production of Fernando Trueba P.C., Les Films d’Ici Méditerranée, Animanostra, Submarine Animation and Tondero Producciones, tells the emotional story about the disappearance of pianist Tenório Junior on March 18, 1976, after giving a concert at the Gran Rex in Buenos Aires with Vinicius de Moraes and Toquinho. He went out to get cigarettes and medicine in what would be the last time he would be seen alive. He was 34 years old. What happened that night? It is the question that moves the narrator (Jeff Goldblum) to begin an investigation into the fateful event that ended the life of a musician destined to forever change the course of Brazilian music.

Both films will compete with Flow de Gynts Zillodis, Living Large de Kristina Dufková y Savages of Claude Barras for winning the prestigious award, which will be presented next December 7 in Lucerne (Switzerland). With respect to the rest of the categories, the November 5 The final list of candidates for these awards will be announced. In a first preselection announced in August by this institution, there are already three Spanish films, also participated by RTVE: one love by Isabel Coixet, You will return by Jonás Trueba and The Horn by Jaione Camborda.
