The mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, and the Minister of Culture, Rosa Aguilar, signed a collaboration agreement last Friday for the 20th edition of the Malaga Festival. Cinema in Spanish. The Festival is organized by the Malaga City Council and the sponsoring institutions in this edition are the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports and the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Andalusia. It has as official sponsors Atresmedia, Gas Natural Fenosa, Cruzcampo and Sur.
The 20th edition of the Malaga Film Festival in Spanish will take place from Friday, March 17 to March 26. In this edition, 1,585 films have been submitted to the different sections of the Festival: 287 Spanish feature films, 573 shorts, 505 documentaries and 220 productions for the section. Ibero-American projection

As for the Official Section, by joining the Ibero-American films with the Spanish ones, it will include a total of 23 films, 17 of them in competition and 6 out of competition. Of the films that will compete for the Biznagas of the Festival, 9 are Spanish production and 8 Ibero-American.

In this way, the Festival turns its Official Section into an image of the current reality of the Ibero-American audiovisual sector, with a balanced and diverse programming that includes the different plot, narrative and aesthetic trends contained in current film production, enriched in this case with a wide representation of Ibero-American countries that provide this section with a variety of views and cultures.

As in previous years, the Festival will dedicate a concert to film music, in this case to Spanish films and series or those shot in Spain. The concert will be held on Sunday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Teatro Cervantes, with the participation of the Malaga Provincial Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Arturo Díez Boscovich. Once again, this concert will serve as a preview of MOSMA (Movie Score Málaga), an international film music festival that will be held from July 5 to 9.

Industry

The 20th edition of the Festival also recovers its industry area, with the celebration of the Spanish Screenings – Málaga de Cine, which will be held on March 20, 21 and 22, organized by FAPAE and in collaboration with ICEX, ICAA, EGEDA, Junta de Andalucía... with which Málaga once again brings together the promotion together with the international sale of Spanish cinema.

In the international section, the Malaga Festival will be integrated for the fourth consecutive year into the Program for the Internationalization of Spanish Culture (PICE) of Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), which will allow directors and programmers of important international festivals to visit Malaga to view and select films for the future programming of their festivals: Morelia International Film Festival (Mexico, Vancouver Latin American Film Festival (Canada, Amsterdam Spanish Film Festival (Countries Netherlands) and Stockholm International Film Festival (Sweden),

The Festival de Málaga 20 exhibition will occupy Larios Street during the days of the Festival, offering a tour of the most representative images of the past years. Images captured by Festival photographers, edition after edition, combining in their work the informative value with the aesthetics of characters, situations and moments.

For the third consecutive year, GastroWeekend will unite cinema and gastronomy during the first weekend at the Albéniz Cinema. On this occasion, both days will be dedicated to Argentine cuisine, with the screening of “Everything about the barbecue.”

Once again, the Festival will include a Documentary Film Meeting, dedicated this year to transnationality, to the paths back and forth between Europe and Latin America. This meeting will be held on March 23 and 24 at the Rectorate of the University of Malaga with the participation of prestigious speakers on this subject.
