The British group ES Broadcast expands its operations in Spain with the purchase of Crosspoint
The specialist in broadcast technology ES Broadcast has acquired the Spanish distributor, service provider and systems integrator Crosspoint and its brand for OTT solutions Cross media.
The deal sees the Madrid-based company become part of ES Media Group, along with existing technology brands ES Broadcast, ES Broadcast Hire and Film Store Rental, and bookstore migration and content service providers LMH and memnon.
The sale was sealed on Monday, December 19, concluding the negotiations led by Jesus Ruiz and Lorenzo Heras, who founded the company with a third partner in 1993. The two founders will be looking to retire after a handover period and wanted to ensure that the company's future would be in the hands of the utmost confidence.
The current commercial director and shareholder of Crosspoint, Victor Garcia, will assume the position of CEO, ensuring continuity in the daily operations of the company.
Ben Murphy, CEO of ES Media Group, acknowledges that “we are excited to welcome Crosspoint to the Group. I have long admired his operative. Their innovation, technical support and knowledge set them apart from their competitors and this is what makes them a benchmark brand trusted by the largest broadcasters in Spain for their most important projects”.
"This acquisition allows ES Media Group greater access to the Iberian Peninsula market, building on the success of our equipment rental operation in Spain," he adds.
“Like our UK and US systems integration division, Crosspoint is increasingly leading the way with the latest technology, including cloud production solutions. It fits perfectly with our strategy of having the best in-house expertise which, in turn, positions us as a true technology partner for top-tier broadcasters, producers and content creators,” Murphy stresses.
Crosspoint's incoming CEO, Victor Garcia, highlights the importance of finding a buyer with extensive knowledge of the industry, market position and ambition, saying: "From the first moment we faced the need to face the generational change in the management of the company, we were very clear that it meant at the same time a great opportunity to grow and prepare ourselves in the most solid way for future challenges”.
“ES Broadcast's size as a global group with a very ambitious approach and complete set of customer solutions responds to these needs raised by Crosspoint. With such a powerful group behind us, we can continue to provide our customers with industry-leading technical expertise and high-quality support, while progressively growing our unique solutions, such as the Crossmedia offering, in the international markets”, says García.
Jonathan Lyth, CTO of ES Media Group, adds that "this acquisition is an exciting opportunity to further expand our collective expertise in engineering, professional service provision and authorized service centers."
“Crosspoint's approach to SaaS and Cloud products aligns closely with our strategy to continually strengthen our training to serve this critical new area of the industry. With the addition of the Crossmedia team, we also added a developer-led capability and software services that acts as a platform to deliver complete end-to-end technical solutions for the media value chain.”
With almost 30 years of experience in the Spanish broadcast market, Crosspoint is one of the most respected broadcast and production technology brands in Spain, serving the broadcast, production, post-production and content delivery sectors. The company offers technology solutions from Grass Valley, Riedel, Haivision, Fastly and Brightcove across a wide range of brands, while notable clients include RTVE, Mediaset, Atresmedia, TV3, À Punt, TVG and Dorna.
Meanwhile, Crossmedia creates and manages OTT streaming services for broadcasters and content generators, using partner software providers as well as internally developed applications.
