4K Summit 2025

With more than 70 experts representing 22 countries in Europe, Asia, North and South America, 35 sponsors, 28 international entities (including the four major global associations such as UHD Alliance, Ultra HD Forum, 8K Association and UHD World Association), 21 national entities and a dozen collaborators, the eleventh edition of the 4K HDR Summit It starts this Tuesday, November 11, with the celebration of the opening day at the Cartuja Auditorium in Seville TechPark.

The 4K HDR Summit 2025 will be held over four days with two in-person days on Tuesday, November 11 and Wednesday, November 12 at the Cartuja Auditorium and two other virtual days (Thursday, November 13 and Friday, November 14), also coinciding with the 22nd edition of the Seville European Film Festival.

This year 2025 will be remembered as a turning point for audiovisual technology thanks to the approval of the new National Technical Plan for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), which strengthens Spain as one of the most dynamic engines in Europe and the world in the development and implementation of UHD. Julia Criado, Deputy Director of Planning and Management of the Radio Spectrum of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service, will talk about this great step and the evolution of DTT towards DVB-T2/UHD, as well as the new spectrum opportunities for audiovisuals.

During the inaugural session, the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service will participate Matias Gonzalez, Secretary General of Telecommunications, Digital Infrastructures and Digital Security, as well as Álvaro Pimentel, deputy mayor of the Seville City Council; Luis Perez, general director of Sevilla TechPark; Juande Mellado, general director of RTVA; and Victor Sanchez, as president of UHD Spain.

In February 2024, TVE's La 1 became the first DTT channel in the world to start regular broadcasts in UHD, thus making Spain the world leader in broadcasting this technology. The UHD Spain association will be another of the main protagonists of the 4K HDR Summit, where it will present for the first time the results of a market study on the knowledge, understanding and perception of UHD in Spain by viewers carried out this year 2025. It will be carried out by Xavi Redon, vice president of UHD Spain, who will also moderate the panel 'UHD reaches Spanish regional television stations' in which some members of the Federation of Regional Radio and Television Organizations (FORTA) such as RTVA, EiTB, Televisión de Galicia and Telemadrid will participate. Likewise, once again this year, the Spanish regional television stations (FORTA) and their technical directors will hold an in-person Technical Commission to discuss technological advances in Ultra High Definition (UHD) and HDR (High Dynamic Range), which improve the quality of the images that reach homes, as well as the exchange of 4K content and its future implementation within their internal communication networks.

For his part, Víctor Sánchez, Director of Media and Operations of TVE and president of UHD Spain, will lead the large representation of the association that will take advantage of the framework offered by the 4K HDR Summit to celebrate its General Assembly of partners with the presence of representatives of the 34 associate members.

The association will also pay tribute to two essential personalities in the promotion of Ultra High Definition in Spain: Ricardo Medina, founder of Medina Media in 2004 and UHD Spain in 2021, and Jose Manuel Menendez, professor at the Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineers of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and director of the RTVE-UPM Chair since its creation in 2015. Both, key figures in the development of Ultra High Definition in Spain, will receive an emotional posthumous recognition for their legacy in the audiovisual industry.

Innovation and leadership from space in the UHD era

The eleventh edition of the 4K HDR Summit will feature the presence of three satellite giants such as SES, Hispasat and Eutelsat. The presence of SES, Hispasat and Eutelsat at the summit reinforces the role of satellite as a driver of the development of new generation television, thanks to its ability to distribute content in maximum quality UHD, 4K and HDR with global coverage, high bandwidth and stable signal quality, even in areas with limited terrestrial infrastructure. Besides, Jorge Rodriguez, Head of Product and Marketing at Hispasat, will present the company's vision on the present and future of Ultra High Definition (UHD), highlighting the role of satellite as an efficient and sustainable means of distribution.

During the eleventh edition of the 4K HDR Summit, more than a dozen channels will participate at the regional, national and international levels. Among them, Andalusian public television with the presence of Rafael Porras, president of RTVA; Juande Mellado, general director of the RTVA; and Juanma Blanco Poley, director of Canal Sur Media, who will talk about the commitment of CanalSur Más, the on-demand television platform, to segmented television. For its part, Sevilla FC will present its new Sevilla FC+ project with the help of Alvaro Ramirez, club communications director.

The event will also have the presence of 26 international entities, including the four major global Ultra High Definition associations. For yet another edition, the UHD World Association, the UHD Alliance, the UltraHD Forum and the 8K Association, which represent more than 500 companies and entities from around the planet, will outline the present and future of 4K and 8K technology worldwide.

Within the top-level agenda of the 4K HDR Summit are several representatives of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which is precisely celebrating its 75th anniversary. Google Cloud will participate in several key sessions at the 11th edition of the 4K HDR Summit. El talento femenino volverá a tener un espacio destacado en la undécima edición de la 4K HDR Summit de Sevilla. El espacio Women in Tech & Contents reunirá a un grupo de reconocidas profesionales internacionales del sector audiovisual y tecnológico, que compartirán sus experiencias y reflexiones en una serie de entrevistas inspiradoras. Su objetivo es dar visibilidad al liderazgo femenino, fomentar entornos laborales más inclusivos y diversos, y motivar a las nuevas generaciones de mujeres a formar parte de una industria aún marcada por la brecha de género.
