TSL expands its control solutions offering with the purchase of JLCooper Electronics
TSL acquire JLCooper Electronics, a company specialized in professional control, automation, synchronization and interface products. The agreement secures the future of the brand, following the death of its founder, Jim Cooper, and guarantees continuity of service and support to its global customer base.
Focused on markets such as live events, music, radio, professional audiovisual and education, JLCooper's notable clients include Cirque du Soleil, the NBA, the Grand Ole Opry and international artists such as Depeche Mode, Pearl Jam and Hans Zimmer, as well as a wide range of OEM clients that fit with TSL's strategic growth plans.
This operation further expands TSL's capabilities in adjacent markets, while expanding its technological offering to its main clients in the broadcast sector. The range of interfaces from JLCooper will be a great addition to the control ecosystem Hummingbird from TSL, offering creators, operators and engineers more options and greater flexibility when connecting and controlling systems within the latest software-defined, cloud and hybrid workflows.
The addition of MIDI communication and control solutions further enhances TSL's capabilities and expands its reach into the music and audio production sector, opening the doors to the enormous variety of devices compatible with the MIDI standard, which Jim Cooper himself helped create and establish.
Following the acquisition, TSL will relocate JLCooper's manufacturing operations from El Segundo, California to its headquarters in Northridge, California, after which TSL will begin production and shipping of JLCooper solutions.
Business continuity
Matthew Quade, CEO of TSL, comments: "With the sad news of Jim Cooper's passing, it was important to find a way to secure the future of JLCooper's revered technology, while ensuring continuity for its customers, and we are pleased to have been able to act so quickly to achieve this. Adding its solutions to the TSL Hummingbird ecosystem, which already combines and expands the much-loved capabilities of Tallyman and DNF Controls, will only enhance the flexibility and options available to our customers, while also expanding the markets that Hummingbird can support.”
Chuck Thompson, CEO of JLCooper Electronics, acknowledges that "we were all deeply shocked and saddened by Jim's passing, and have been working tirelessly to find a way to move forward with his business that would ensure the continuity of his legacy and maintain support for the users who have come to appreciate JLCooper solutions over the last 46 years. I have loved the way in which TSL has been able to offer a path forward in such a short time, as well as the understanding and support that the TSL team has demonstrated. I can't imagine a better home for the brand and products, and I look forward to working with TSL to offer customers enhanced options for their future workflows.”
