A number Conception Blackmagic solutions, including cameras, software and other solutions, have been used to create more than 60 series released in the fall of 2021.

These include Ghosts, which used URSA Mini Pro 12K et Caméra de cinéma de poche 4K units to shoot the pilot; Station 19, which based its entire virtual production on Blackmagic Design; and other household names such as Succession, The Simpsons et Billions, which were color corrected with DaVinci Resolve Studio. In addition, solutions such as ATEM Mini Pro mixers have facilitated various remote workflows, such as the one used by Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.‘s special effects team.

Among the series for the fall 2021 season made with Blackmagic Design cameras are:

  • Blue Bloods: visual effects supervisor Mike Warren (Filmworks/FX NY) used Blackmagic Production Camera 4K units for the special effects shots
  • The Equalizer: cinematographer Stefan Czapsky used Caméra de cinéma de poche 4K units for the supplemental shots.
  • Ghosts: DP Judd Overton used URSA Mini Pro 12K and Pocket Cinema Camera 4K units for some of the pilot episode shots.
  • Nancy Drew: DP Shamus Whiting-Hewlett used Caméra de cinéma de poche 6K Pro units for some shots.
  • NCIS et Le Neighborhood: visual effects supervisors John Gross and Fred Pienkos (Muse VFX) used URSA Mini Pro 12K units to shoot the visual effects elements and base images.
  • Puppy Place: cinematographer Steve Gainer (ASC, ASK) used the URSA Mini Pro 12K model.
  • Succession: visual effects supervisor Aaron Raff (Phosphene) used the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K to shoot the visual effects elements and base images.

Visual effects and virtual productions

DaVinci Resolve Studio has been another indispensable mainstay for the creatives and technicians who have shaped the visual effects for a number of important series. Some of the most notable names include:

  • 9-1-1: visual effects supervisor Bert Poole (SpinVFX) used DaVinci Resolve Studio.
  • American Rust: visual effects supervisors Greg Radcliffe and Christian Lowe (Phosphene) used DaVinci Resolve Studio
  • Blue Bloods: visual effects supervisor Mike Warren (Filmworks/FX NY) used DaVinci Resolve Studio as well as Intensity Shuttle devices for image playback
  • Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.: visual effects artist Mike Gaines (InvisEffects) used DaVinci Resolve Studio, as well as an ATEM Mini Pro mixer to collaborate remotely with production
  • Insecure, Liza on Demand, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Neighborhood, One of Us Is Lying, Queens et Y: The Last Man: visual effects supervisors John Gross and Fred Pienkos (Muse VFX) used Fusion Studio for compositing, as well as DaVinci Resolve Studio to edit effects on different shows
  • Station 19: Visual effects supervisor Sam Nicholson (Stargate Studios) used DaVinci Resolve Studio, DaVinci Resolve Micro Panel devices, UltraStudio et DeckLink capture and playback cards, and other equipment for virtual production.

Color correction with DaVinci Resolve

While DaVinci Resolve Studio is used in visual effects contexts, it is in color grading that it really shines. The selection of fictions in this area are:

  • All American et Batwoman: colorized by Matt Lear (Mad Old Nut Productions).
  • American Horror Story: Double Feature et Truth Be Told: color-keyed by Jeremy Sawyer (Light Iron)
  • B Positive et Bob Hearts Abishola: color-keyed by Sparkle (Picture Shop)
  • The Big Leap et South Side: color-keyed by Aidan Stanford (Arsenal)
  • Big Ciel (episodes 114, 115 and 116) and The Cleaning Lady (pilot): color-keyed by Paul Allia (Picture Shop)
