Radio Underground, new ways and models of doing FM radio
In an initiative of VCCP Spain, Quasar Labs deploys a network of micro-emitters so that Radio Underground can broadcast every Sunday from a different Madrid Metro station.
VCCP Spain has launched Radio Underground, an interesting project to distribute underground music. The peculiarity of this station is that it can only be heard on the Metro, thus demonstrating that FM, compared to streaming, is still very much alive.
This initiative promoted by the record label Discos Imprescindibles and Elefant Records aims to promote the most underground indie pop bands that have no place on commercial radio stations. Radio Underground broadcasts from 9 to 10 p.m. at a different Madrid Metro station every Sunday on the 107.5 FM dial in Madrid.
Rasio Underground has been awarded an award in the Media Innovation category in the latest edition of the FIAP (Ibero-American Advertising Festival). The programming and stations on which it will be broadcast can be followed in its web.
To make it possible for Radio Underground to operate in the underground of Madrid on the corresponding station, Quasar Labs deploys several low-power portable micro-emitters. One of the stations functions as a base (with a transmission range of 400 meters) and the rest function as repeaters, expanding the general reach of the network underground.
