The new 2 megapixel CMOS sensor, designed for mobile terminals, will allow native video to be recorded at 1080p at 30fps even in light conditions above 15 lumens.

OmniVision OV2710If Apple surprised with the announcement that the new iPhone3GS could record at 720p, this barrier could soon be overcome because one of its usual suppliers, OmniVision, has just unveiled the new OV2710 sensor, a 2 megapixel CMOS that allows video to be recorded at 1080p at 30 fps. With light conditions below even the threshold of 15 lumens, excellent quality images would be achieved, although the most curious thing about the sensor is that reducing the resolution would allow recording even at 720p 60fps or even at 120fps in standard 640x480 resolution.
