The French network operator and head-end equipment manufacturer VDL acquires nine DMB 670 transmitters from Harris for DAB/DMB broadcasting in order to complete the digital network in the cities of Nice, Marseille and Paris.
Harris Corporation has sold nine DMB 670 multimedia transmitters to the French network operator and equipment manufacturer VDL, in order to expand the DAB/DMB digital radio network in the cities of Nice, Marseille and Paris. The transmitters support all DAB, DAB+ and DMB standards, having been successfully tested with various VDL head-end equipment, thus ensuring future developments of both technologies.
Richard Scott, vice president for EMEA operations at Harris Broadcast Communications, commented that "this is the first sale of our DAB/DMB transmitters in France, and we are very pleased with this collaboration with VDL accompanying them in this exciting time of change in the rollout of digital radio in the country. For his part, Yannick André-Masse, CEO of VDL, added that "the rollout of digital radio is the biggest event in France this year, with the digital switch-on set to take place in the coming years. months.”
It is noteworthy that Harris transmitters have undergone extensive testing by VDL at their facilities in France to ensure the compatibility of Harris transmitters and the VDL line of headend equipment in the context of this company's international activities as manufacturers of DAB/DMB systems.
“The results of this analysis are that broadcasters in the European Union and Asia-Pacific who are planning to purchase equipment for DAB, DAB and DMB will be able to feel comfortable choosing a solution that combines Harris transmitters and VDL equipment ensuring that both product lines are fully compatible with these standards,” added Scott. André-Masse admitted that “beyond our activity as a French network operator, VDL offers a wide range of solutions such as headend multiplexing equipment, so the compatibility of these products with Harris transmitters was a key factor in our decision to choose Harris for this important project.”
Available from 40 to 10 kW in Band III, the DMB 670 transmitters are specially designed for broadcasters that require a space and cost effective solution. They include Harris PowerSmart technology that provides high density and high efficiency in a compact and economical device.
