NBC relies on Omneon and EVS for coverage of the Vancouver Games

Omneon and EVS will supply the North American NBC, on the occasion of the next Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, with a platform for ingesting, processing, editing, distribution and storage of multiplatform content.

Omneon has been selected by NBC to launch a complex solution for the storage, processing and distribution of high-definition content, both in the internal workflow and all on-demand services on the Internet and other platforms, for the Vancouver Games.

A key piece in this project is the Omneon MediaGrid active storage system that will be integrated with EVS' XT[2] production servers, providing immediate access to all live and fake live high definition material. The Omneon MediaGrid together with the ProXchange will allow edited content to be transcoded for rapid broadcast through the ProCast CDN content distribution system.

The joint integration of Omneon and EVS will allow rapid delivery of materials to television, Internet, mobile telephony or video-on-demand services. The Omneon platform's remarkably fast transcoding enables you to create, process and deliver media clips for cross-platform distribution at high speed and reliability.

A millimetrically thought out flow

Throughout the Vancouver Winter Games, EVS' XT [2] production server, along with the IPDirector suite and IPEdit field editor will be used for live and near-live HD ingest, production and broadcast. Sources from the Olympic Broadcaster Services Vancouver (OBSV) as well as those generated by NBC will be recorded on the Operators will thus be able to capture and manipulate images from the MediaGrid for production and broadcast.

NBCOlympics.com will offer coverage of more than 400 hours of live events from Vancouver. In addition, the site will offer more than 1,000 hours of on-demand access to replays of fifteen sports events, as well as numerous highlights and other videos. Microsoft Silverlight technology will allow video playback with full control by the user of play, pause and other navigation options.
