Cuban director Juan Padrón will teach an animation course
One of the most renowned animated film directors in Latin America, will give two workshops in Madrid and Seville during the month of June 2010. Professor at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Arts and Industry, he has taught animation courses in Spain, Chile, Havana, Brazil, Colombia and Argentina, having received awards such as the National Humor Awards (2004) and Cinema Awards (2008).
The SGAE Author Foundation organizes the workshop 'Animation before animating', with cartoon director Juan Padrón as teacher. This professor at the ICAIC (Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Arts and Industry), and creator of Vampires in Havana y Elpidio Valdes, will be in Madrid (from the 7th to the 11th of next June) and in Seville, the following week (from the 14th to the 18th of June).
The workshops are designed for cartoonists, designers, illustrators, writers, graduates of art schools, film schools and other related media who wish to gain in-depth knowledge of the tools available to tell their stories and the fundamental role of creative planning, from the plot to the staging, in the final result.

Juan Padrón is one of the most renowned animation film directors in Latin America. He was born in Matanzas (Cuba) in 1947. Graduated in Art History at the University of Havana and Associate Professor at the Higher Institute of Art. Since 1963, caricaturist, cartoonist and scriptwriter for various magazines and publications with series such as Vampiros, Verdugos, Piojos, Comejenes, etc. En 1970 crea a Elpidio Valdés, el más popular de los personajes de historietas y dibujos animados cubanos.
En 1975 se incorpora al ICAIC (Instituto Cubano de Arte e Industria Cinematográfica) como director. Ha realizado más de 60 cortos tales como Filminutos, Viva Papi, Xip Xérep…; las series Quinoscopios, Mafalda y sus amigos, Más se perdió en Cuba; y cinco largometrajes de animación, entre ellos: Elpidio Valdés contra dólar y cañón y Vampires in Havana.
En 2007 publica las novelas Vampires in Havana y Elpidio Valdés contra dólar y cañón; en 2008, Vampirenkommando y en 2009, Cómo me hice Pepito el Corneta. He has taught Animation courses in Spain, Chile, Havana, Brazil, Colombia and Argentina. He has received numerous national and international awards, recognitions and decorations, the National Humor Award (2004) and the National Film Award (2008).
