The multinational Hewlett Packard (HP) has included three new models in its range of Z line workstations (HP Z820, HP Z620 and HP Z420), which incorporate the Intel Xeon E5-2600 processor and graphics cards from Nvidia's Quadro line.

HP has updated its line of Z series workstations, designed to offer greater performance, functionality and a modern and revolutionary design. The new line of multi-core workstations includes the HP Z820, HP Z620 and HP Z420 models, which take advantage of the new next-generation Intel

The latest additions to HP's Z line also feature the third generation of PCI Express technology, providing customers with increased performance and seamless integration of new graphics cards.

The new HP Z420 Workstation has been designed to meet the generic processing and visualization needs of customers in the computer-aided design (CAD), architecture, video editing and photography industries, and includes up to eight processing cores using the latest Intel 2,000 dual Nvidia Quadro graphics.

For quiet environments with minimal space, the HP Z620 represents a well-suited choice for mid-range CAD, video, animation, architecture and financial services customers. Updated to support both single- and dual-socket processors, the powerful and versatile HP Z620 offers up to 16 processing cores, up to 96GB of ECC memory, up to 11TB of high-speed storage, and up to 6,000 Nvidia Quadro graphics or 5,000 dual Nvidia Quadro graphics.

For its part, the new HP Z820 workstation has been designed for the most demanding and intensive needs at the level of visualization and processing, and is intended for customers in the computer-aided mechanical design sector for gas and oil, computer-aided mechanical engineering, medical sector, video and animation. The HP Z820 provides up to 16 processing cores, up to 512 GB of ECC memory, up to 14 terabytes (TB) of high-speed storage, and up to 6,000 dual Nvidia Quadro graphics.

Jim Zafarana, vice president and general manager of HP's Business Solutions business unit, said, "HP's workstation business continues to invest in technology to enable our customers to push the boundaries of innovation. Our investments in R&D and technology have led our workstations to meet and exceed the needs of the world's most demanding customers."

More cores for “multitasking” activities

The Intel Xeon E5-2600 processor enables up to 16 physical cores in a single system and allows all 32 threads to run when using two processors, each with eight cores and enabled with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology. The new processors include Intel vPro technology, integrated memory controllers and Intel Turbo Boost technology.

Boyd Davis, vice president of Intel's Architecture Group, said: "HP workstations based on our new Intel or layouts and shape their ideas on their HP workstations.”

The new HP Z Workstations include 90 percent efficient power supplies – reducing overall power consumption and the amount of waste heat. HP's Z line is EPEAT Gold registered and offers Energy Star qualified configurations. All HP Z Workstations offer BFR/PVC free configurations and are more than 90 percent recyclable by weight.
