Sony, in collaboration with VM Broadcast and Ovide, has organized a day in Madrid to present the new Cinealta F65 camera to photo and film directors. The heart of the camera is Sony's 8K sensor, which ensures HD, 2K, 4K resolutions and beyond.

In a day organized by Sony, in collaboration with VM Broadcast y Ovid, attendees were able to watch some short films shot with the F65 in 4K projection.

Richard Lewis, digital cinematography product specialist at Sony at European level, has reviewed the workflow with this camera.

For his part, Philippe Ros, a prestigious French director of photography, member of the technical committee of Imago and world-renowned for works such as Oceans, has shared with the attendees his first experiences with the F65 with which he has already filmed a short film (Generations, directed by Peter Farrer). Ros even worked with the first prototype of the camera, also actively participating in the development of the 4K workflow.

The short film Generations It is shot with a prototype of the F65 at 800 ASA, with a truly fascinating light treatment and its impact on the skin. Ros has highlighted that, since during filming there was very bad weather, thanks to the F65 he was able to film very quickly with practically the only help of a photometer. He has also emphasized the focus possibilities offered by the camera.

When recording in RAW, Ros has highlighted that the workflow is very important since the machine is very easy to use and guarantees us a creative palette. Regarding possible noise problems in low lights, Ros has admitted that at no time has he encountered this difficulty.

As a member of Imago's technical committee, he has asked Sony to request that laboratories advance work with such a huge color space as well as that manufacturers offer correct information when talking about pixels and resolution of their cameras. Ros has reported that the F65 does deliver true 4K resolution.

Look de 65 mm.

With a 65mm film look, Sony's F65 has taken a step forward in 4K resolution production and beyond.

The heart of the F65 camera is Sony's 8K sensor, which ensures HD, 2K and 4K resolutions, today, so it will go far beyond 4K as the industry evolves. This unique sensor, with a total of 20 megapixels, offers more image fidelity than any other camera thanks to the combination of extraordinary resolution, 14 latitude stops, ISO800 sensitivity and extensive color reproduction capacity that allows it to adapt to the IIF-ACES workflow. Its 16-bit linear RAW output opens the way to full 4K mastering workflows.

The camera also offers maximum recording security on SRMemory cards through the attachable SRMASTER SR-R4 recorder (with 60 minutes of RAW file recording on a 1 TB SRMemory memory card at 24 FPS). On the other hand, its rotating shutter eliminates motion artifacts. It also has a Wi-Fi interface for remote control from a Sony S1 (Android) or iPad graphics tablet, as well as an HD-SDI output with display LUT to monitor images on set and assisted focus zoom.

The F65 allows you to switch between 16-bit linear RAW and MPEG-4 SStP recording modes. Users can configure the camera for each project and select the 16-bit RAW format for maximum quality images or high-speed recording (up to 120 FPS), or the MPEG-4 SStP format (native to HDCAM SR) for exceptional quality high definition recordings. MPEG-4 SStP mode also offers full support for viewing, offline editing and post-production tasks via Sony's free viewer for PC or MAC, and other solutions using the Sony Software Development Kit (SDK).
