'Who Killed Bambi?', first Spanish film shot with the F65

The director Santi Amodeo and the cinematographer Álex Catalán have opted for the F65 camera of Sony to film the Spanish comedy Who killed Bambi?
It is the first time that a Spanish feature film is approached with the F65, premiering with a film with numerous night sequences and large backlights. The impressive latitude and its performance in low lighting situations have been key for the production team to opt for the Sony camera.
The director of photography, Alex Catalán, admits that "the choice, as usual, was between shooting on celluloid or digital. And within digital, it is not so much a question of look but of power, which is why we have chosen the F65, it has been a question of muscle... which is what makes the F65 different from the rest."
Catalán highlights the color depth of the F65 as well as the resolution which, as he acknowledges, "is almost excessive, in fact I am removing resolution through filtering. But it is always better to remove than add."
On the other hand, he also highlights that “the F65 offers very little compression so it is very elastic in post-production.”
For his part, Manolo Limón, Line Producer, refers to the different tests they carried out with the RED Epic and the F65. After sending the test material to post-production (the film about DaVinci is being finished) and watching it projected on a big screen, according to Limón, Álex Catalán was very clear about choosing the Sony camera. For filming, VM Broadcast provided two of these cameras.
The F65 is a digital cinema camera that has a 20 megapixel 8K CMOS sensor, and can work at up to 120 Fps, creating HD/2K or true 4K resolution images with a great color gamut, excellent dynamic range and high sensitivity.
The SR-R4 SRMemory plug-in drive writes 16-bit linear SRRAW files directly to an SRMemory card at 5 Gbps. For maximum operating flexibility, the SR-R4 can also support the SStP recording format (as well as HDCAM SR), which can be used natively in the same non-linear editors.
