Akamai and Telefónica They have closed a global strategic alliance to incorporate Akamai content distribution solutions (CDN) in their offer for companies and multinationals operating with Telefónica.

Telefónica Global Solutions reinforces its CDN business by joining the leading platform in the Akamai content delivery industry with its own IP network, offering complete CDN and telecommunications solutions to its companies. This strategic alliance will have its initial focus in Spain and Latin America, with plans to expand globally.

Additionally, companies have created an innovation committee to develop products and explore future opportunities, especially in fields such as multimedia optimization or mobile technologies. As part of their multiannual agreement, Akamai and Telefónica will dedicate resources together in areas of technical support, customer service, marketing and professional services with the aim of ensuring the best experience to their customers.

With about 323 million customers, including more than 254 million mobile subscribers, Telefónica provides high quality network solutions that support the exponential growth of digital content. Telefónica customers can benefit from the efficient delivery of high quality digital content, video and web applications, offering with all this a complete experience to the user.

AkamaiJuan Carlos López Vives, president of Telefónica Global Solutions, acknowledges that “we are witnessing an unprecedented increase in connectivity in all types of devices and a significant increase in the use of video. Our alliance with Akamai reinforces our commitment, positioning Telefónica in the center of the digital revolution. Offering our customers of companies and multinational Telefónica services value, we reinforce our CDN strategy globally. ”

For his part, Tom Leighton, CEO of Akamai, stressed that “Telefónica is one of the leading operators in the world of integrated telecommunications, with a strong presence in Europe and Latin America. Akamai uses a wide distributed network of servers to boost online content around the world that would otherwise be concentrated in few locations. The Alliance with Telefónica will allow a greater distribution of Akamai servers in the Telefónica IP network and will provide additional capacity in Spain and emerging markets in Latin America. The result is greater network efficiency, better quality of service for end users and a system with greater security.
