Pablo Rio and Genetic Engineering 2, from Quantel, protagonists in the World Cup in Brazil
Quantel technology will enable 4K 60p color finishing and correction at the HBS and Sony production center at the FIFA World Cup.
The HBS production center, as host broadcaster, in collaboration with Sony that will cover the World Cup in Brazil will have the technology of Quantel for finishing and color correction of material captured in 4K 60p.
The Quantel Genetic Engineering 2 (GE2) system, together with the color correction and finishing of two Pablo Rio 4k, will allow the storage and workflow across the entire gene pool throughout the entire production chain of rapid response packages in 4K resolution.
These image packages will be distributed to broadcasters and Sony Stores around the world, as well as to several giant screens distributed in parks in numerous Brazilian cities. Quantel's solution will also be used for post-production of the official World Cup film in 4K Ultra HD.
The Pablo Rio high-end color correction and finishing system provides the final production workflow for 4K and beyond. Pablo Rio runs on high-performance PC hardware and exploits Nvidia Maximus multi-GPU technology to deliver true interactivity and maximum productivity.
As for GE2 technology, it provides shared storage and workflow for up to four Pablo Rio systems, enabling better teamwork and more productive post-production.
The Quantel system will work with 4K 60p
All XAVC media will be immediately available for viewing, correction and finishing in Pablo Rio thanks to its ability to immediately start working with the material without transcoding or importing. The Quantel system will also record 60p 4K live over a 3G SDI link, allowing you to edit even while recording. Pablo Rio will be equipped with the integrated Fraunhofer IIS easyDCP toolset for the production of the cinema deliverables.
Mark Grinyer, Sony Program Manager for the World Cup, acknowledges that "the choice of the Quantel GE2 and Pablo Rio systems for 4K production has been downright simple. The chosen system needed to handle 4K 60p in real time, reliably, in order to produce a series of highlights quickly and efficiently. Quantel users have already demonstrated in many projects in real production environments that Pablo Rio and Genetic Engineering 2 guarantee a shared workflow in order to comfortably handle 4K 60p and beyond. This made Quantel a natural choice for this demanding environment.”
