Numerous European broadcasters standardize the use of Sony's XDCAM solutions to deliver content to millions of viewers across the European continent. Al Jazeera, ITV, N1, RAI, Scottish TV and TVE sign agreements with Sony.

Sony continues to expand XDCAM's presence on numerous European networks such as Al Jazeera, ITV, N1, RAI, Scottish TV and TVE, have signed agreements to standardize the use of Sony's range of

Television broadcasters have particularly benefited from the improved workflows offered as a result of the data transfer speeds enabled by the memory-based XDCAM product range.

Since its introduction, the XDCAM range of broadcast camcorders and production equipment has evolved to reflect changing trends in the broadcast sector. Recently, for example, XDCAM customers have been able to integrate Sony's XAVC recording format for free, along with the ability to work in Sony's older DVCAM, IMX, MPEG2 HD420 and HD422 formats. Sony has also introduced a host of wireless features as broadcasters look for reliable file transfer from the field to the cloud or to the network.

Sony PMW-500 Al Jazeera

Al Jazeera chose Sony's PMW-500 and PMW-200 camcorders with all their accessories to standardize its global news production with innovative HD technology. The camcorders will be distributed to Al Jazeera's news offices in 50 countries on six continents. The objective is to improve the technical quality of broadcasts on its six news channels, in addition to reducing the time needed to spread stories. Paul Quinn, Head of Field Activities at Al Jazeera English Channel, said: "Al Jazeera needed to identify the best-in-class news gathering technology infrastructure to meet the needs of an international news team. Sony provided the answer: a flexible technical solution that delivers high-quality content at speed."

N1

N1, CNN's exclusive affiliate in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia, is the first news channel in the region to broadcast in HD 24 hours a day by standardizing its news gathering and live broadcast operations with Sony XDCAM HD camcorders, studio cameras, vision switchers and digital storage. “Ours is an exclusive team in the region,” declared N1 technical director, Igor Jovic. “Our news gathering and broadcasting operations have the highest professional standards from day one, as well as coordination between three production centers, and that is due to the standardization of Sony equipment.”

Scottish TV

In a similar deal, Scottish TV has invested in Sony cameras and equipment to support news gathering workflows across its five sites. The Scottish chain has acquired 25 PMW-400L cameras, 25 CBK-WA101 wireless adapters, eight PMW-1000 decks for memory recording and four units of Sony PMW-50 SxS Field Equipment. The investment also includes a complete package of Sony audio products from the DWX series.

ITV News

ITV

ITV, the UK's commercial television network, has invested in more than 190 Sony PMW-400 and PMW-200 cameras as it migrates its regional news operations to HD. It has also chosen Sony's CBK-WA101 wireless adapters, which speed up the news workflow by allowing easy transmission of content over a wireless network from any of the company's new PMW-400s. Connecting directly to cameras, the CBK-WA101 adapter enables streaming of both proxy files and high-resolution content to a TV station, on-premises server or cloud environment over 3G, 4G, LTE and Wi-Fi.

Paul Stevenson, director of technology and technical operations at ITV News, comments that "the workflow of Sony's

Meanwhile, in Spain, the TVE network has also consolidated its relationship with Sony, a relationship that has lasted more than 25 years. Earlier this year, TVE announced a tender for a 3-year deal and Sony won the two lots awarded in the process. Thanks to this agreement, Sony offers a team that includes 50 shoulder camcorders (PMW-500, PMW-400, PDW-700 and PDW-680), 20 handheld camcorders (PMW-150), as well as a combination of decks and audio equipment.

RAI

The Italian broadcaster RAI has invested in the implementation of XDCAM HD422 tapeless camcorders in order to migrate to a Full HD infrastructure over a period of three years. The use of Sony products has been implemented across the full range of the company's operations, from news gathering to series and documentary production.

Andrea Lorusso Caputi, director of RAI's television production department, comments: "RAI is committed to moving to HD content production and this agreement with Sony is the first step in our plan to create a suitable platform to migrate to HD."
