KBS Master Control

As part of an upgrade process, Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) has installed new equipment Theirs in its master control room (MCR) on a new server-based infrastructure, replacing more than ten years old technology. In total, fourteen Nova17 MkII routing systems will be part of the new KBS infrastructure in combination with VisTool for visualization and control.

The concept behind this project is to establish a fully redundant centralized broadcast system, along with user-friendly management and efficient and sophisticated monitoring and alarm operation. An additional benefit is that to have certain functions it will no longer be necessary to use external devices, since they are integrated into the Lawo equipment. For each of the seven radio stations, KBS has installed a Nova17 main and backup array; with two Vistool systems and two KSC control panels. This configuration provides full redundancy for each control room.

The KBS engineering team is impressed by the customization of Vistool's user interface with respect to design features. The system status of the seven programs is monitored by two logging servers via SNMP and the Korean software, AD-Soft. This is controlled by a Korean APC solution, while the audio file system has been installed by the French company The valley.

The new infrastructure will allow the station's teams to perform configurations without specialized knowledge, and enjoy an efficient, intelligent and well-designed design.
The system is being tested over the winter months, going live at different stages throughout this year.
