LiveU in Sky NewsOn May 7, Sky News launched an impressive device to cover the election night with up to 150 simultaneous live broadcasts in the hottest news spots in the country.

The technology of LiveU provided real-time coverage from key polling stations across the country. This device has been an unprecedented success offering Sky viewers the most comprehensive coverage available.

LiveU in Sky NewsThe 150 signals from the LiveU equipment were routed to the Sky News Broadcast Center (Osterley) via IP, constituting the largest IP outdoor coverage in history.

Each video stream was sent to Google cloud servers for live streaming on YouTube. At the same time, an SD proxy was sent to Sky's News Operations Control (NOC) in Studio B displaying the images on ten 4K monitors.

Chris Smith, director of technology development at Sky news, acknowledges that “never, to my knowledge, has anyone tried to broadcast 150 simultaneous live sources over IP.”
