LiveU in Tokyo 2020

The flexibility and reliability of LiveU made it possible for more than 19,000 connections and 50,000 hours of continuous live broadcasts to be carried out to fifty countries during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with the help of more than 1,300 units.

At the Tokyo Games there was a 400% increase in the deployment of LiveU compared to Rio 2016, reflecting the growing confidence in this manufacturer's systems for high-quality, reliable and cost-effective live broadcasts, replacing traditional satellite and fiber methods.LiveU in Tokyo 2020

In action for the first time at a major international sporting event was the native LU800 grade 5G production from LiveU, using the 5G the NTT Docomo, with its multi-camera capabilities that provide dynamic coverage from multiple angles.

Another first was the adoption of the cloud video management solution Matrix IP of LiveU for the cost-effective distribution of live broadcasts to broadcasters at home over the public Internet. LiveU managed more than 30 distribution channels to almost a hundred broadcasters around the world on the Matrix platform, all of them dedicated to Games.

Ronen Artman, vice president of marketing at LiveU, highlights that "With no live audiences, it was even more important for broadcasters to capture the incredible achievements of the athletes and the atmosphere surrounding the Games. Camera teams got closer than ever to the action thanks to the LiveU units used in all venues: inside the stadiums, outside on the slopes and in the water. From coverage of the Opening Ceremony to the events themselves, the award ceremonies on the podiums and interviews with athletes and coaches, LiveU was present at every moment, bringing pride to the fans who supported their country's teams."

LiveU's project and customer support team was present during the Games, providing a dedicated service 24 hours a day to the different teams traveling to Japan. He NOC (Network Operations Center) of LiveU continuously monitored the performance of the live broadcasts.
