Xavier Redón (Cellnex): “2016 will be the year of the relaunch of hybrid television in Spain”
Xavier Redón, Product Manager at Cellnex Telecom, reviews in this video interview some of the lines of action that the Spanish operator is carrying out in relation to Ultra High Definition and hybrid television.
The presence of Cellnex Telecom in BIT Broadcast 2016 It focused on two fundamental pillars: 4K UHD and hybrid TV.
On the occasion of the BIT Broadcast 2016 celebration in Madrid, Cellnex broadcast a 4K signal from Torrespaña for the entire metropolitan area of the capital. Among the contents broadcast, the 4K production recently carried out by Spanish Television of the opera stood out. Parsifal from the Teatro Real. The broadcast could be received through channel 32, with DVB-T2 modulation and HEVC standard coding, becoming the first time in which the entire city was covered for a broadcast of these characteristics.
At the Cellnex stand we were also able to see a UHDTV broadcast with live images captured from a camera located in the space. Ericsson at the fair, thus making it clear that 4K DTT with live content is now a tangible reality.
As far as hybrid television is concerned, Cellnex demonstrated interesting services such as the so-called 'start-over' that allows a user who has just tuned into a DTT channel to go to the beginning of the program being broadcast, in this case receiving it via streaming through HbbTv.
Cellnex also carried out demonstrations of video on demand applications (catch up or stored video) accessible to the user by simply pressing the red button on their remote control.
Xavier Redón, Product Manager at Cellnex Telecom, highlights that although in Spain the HbbTv standard has been promoted until now by public broadcasters, this year 2016 will mark a turning point when commercial televisions are incorporated with new hybrid services.
