Belgian Temple Of Tune invests in a second Yamaha Nuage system
The second Nuage system has been installed in the cinema room of these sound studios to carry out a wide range of mixes in 5.1, 7.1, Dolby Atmos and Auro 3D.
In 2014 Fredo Gevaert, owner of the Belgian studio Temple of Tune, invested in a Yamaha Nuage post-production system, acknowledging that “it has been like switching from flying an airplane with a mouse and keyboard to flying from inside a real cockpit.” As soon as he started working with his first Yamaha Nuage system, he planned to have a second one that he just installed now.
Founded in 1990, Temple of Tune specializes in sound design for television, film and advertising. He has used Steinberg Nuendo in all four of his studios since the DAW was launched, but installing the first Nuage system in the main studio made a big difference to the workflow.
"Nuendo has so many advantages compared to other DAWs. It is more flexible, faster and easier to work with multiple users. However, there is a limit to the number of key commands one can use and remember. But until 2014 we did not use controllers because there was no one that met our needs," highlights Gevaert.
That all changed with the introduction of Nuage, which brought all of Nuendo's functionality immediately to the fingertips of Temple of Tune engineers.
"Nuage was the first controller that we felt comfortable with. You can use it with your eyes closed, you don't have to look at which button you are touching as it is very intuitive. We fell in love with it from the first minute," continues Fredo.
surround mixes
The second Nuage system has been installed in Temple of Tune's cinema room, which is used to produce a wide range of surround mixes. Purchased through Yamaha distributor Amptec and installed by the studios' technical staff, it has immediately gone to work on 52 11-minute episodes of the Franco-Belgian animated series My Knight And Me, which is broadcast worldwide.
"The workflow for this series uses both Nuage systems, starting in the main studio. We start by doing Foley recordings with Nuage as the front-end controller, then we use Nuendo's Spotting/Marker/ADR function to sort the Foley recordings. We then carry out automatic dialogue replacement (ADR) with which Nuage makes a big difference in its speed. Then we do sound effects cutting and the final TV mix. From there a film mix is done on the new system Nuage in our movie theater, where we can do 5.1, 7.1, Dolby Atmos and Auro 3D,” says the owner of Temple of Tune.
"We have to produce three completely separate masters for television, film and DVD, all with different sound and dynamic range. The combination of Nuendo and Nuage is simply fantastic, it means we can guarantee our clients the best possible quality for their budget," he concludes.
