3D Wire reveals the 121 projects selected within the call for Portuguese-Spanish animation and video game projects. This year, for the first time, it includes works from Portugal, a fact that lays the foundations begun in 2016 and consolidates the event as a Spanish-Portuguese event; thanks also to the support of its Embassy in Spain and the Camoes Institute. “It is a very important step that further strengthens the ties already created with our neighbor and makes 3D Wire the perfect place to generate synergies between both countries,” says its director, José Luis Farias.
On the 6th and 7th, the central days of the event, the most relevant works that will mark the news of the Animation, Video Games and New Media sector in the coming months will be announced to a large part of the industry. A list that includes a total of 24 short films, 13 feature films, 16 animated series, 48 video games, 9 Apps and 11 VR projects, as an essential part of this market. “There are many professionals who want to be here, many who want to present their projects, and this offers us a double reading: the strength of the sector throughout the peninsula and at the same time the attracting capacity of our market” concludes Farias.
Dragonkeeper
Another of the most anticipated names will be Alberto Vázquez, one of the great winners of the last edition of the Goya Awards by achieving the double with his short film Decorated (which won maximum recognition in the past 3D Wire) and his debut feature Psychonauts, the forgotten children, both awarded as the best animations of the year. Vázquez, will reveal new details of his new feature film, Unicorn Wars; a work that he himself defines as “a mix of Bambi and Apocalypse Now.” The Galician will also present a video game project called Microbial with Víctor García.
The filmmaker Isabel Herguera will be the protagonist with her new documentary work The sultana's dream; The director has been behind this project for years, which is based on a story written by Rokeya Hossian in 1905, a story that incites reflection on the values and behaviors inherited from tradition.
Along with them is the Portuguese producer Jonas Cesar (AIM Animation Studios), who will introduce Dom Fradique. A highly anticipated feature film directed by Zepe, a director who has accumulated a multitude of awards and recognitions inside and outside his country, including several Cartoon D'Or nominations and distinctions at festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand or Huesca. Zepe also has a series in the final selection: Mr. Passageiro.
The short films section is also not far behind with confirmed names such as Daniel Martínez Lara, winner of a Goya for Alike; Daniel will talk about his latest project: Hero short film project made with the open source Blender and with the support of Blender Cloud. Diego Porral will also be there, doubly the protagonist of this edition as he is selected in the Festival area with A day in the park and in the Market with Millennials and how to identify them.

For his part, Corral has a career of more than sixteen years in the audiovisual world, more than 40 awards and for his previous work, Down by Love, he featured the voices of great American stars such as Stephen Dorff or the singer and actor Ne-Yo. His new foray into the world of short films is called A Family Tale.
Television animation and video games
True to its spirit, 3D Wire combines prestigious professionals with emerging talents in all its sections. An area where television animation and video games have become the true quarries of the sector. Within the 16 series that are selected in this edition, there will be those responsible for The Infinite Hero: Christian Villacañas and Francesc Xavier Manuel, who were already selected in Bridging the Gap 2017. For its part, Portugal will be represented by the series The Tribe by Nuno Beato, a project that humorously touches on the clash between civilizations.
In the video game part, there will be five of the 48 chosen, who in addition to being able to see their progress, will have their filmmakers to confirm new details and information. For several of these projects, Kickstarter has been fundamental, as is the case of the retrofuturistic video game Narita Boy by Studio Koba. This Spanish game has triumphed on this popular crowdfunding platform, exceeding its goal of 120,000 euros; reaching more than 160,000 from more than 5,000 sponsors. In this same area there is Blasphemous, the new work by the Sevillian studio The Game Kitchen, also based on pixel art and that makes use of religious elements to generate a gloomy atmosphere. The latter raised a total of $333,246 from 9,869 crowdfunders, exceeding its goal of $50,000.
Other titles that will be released in the Castilian-Leonese city, in addition to the one already mentioned above Microbial, will be Do Not Feed The Monkeys y The shadow of the mask. The first made by the Madrid-based Fictiorama Studios and which proposes a unique digital “voyeur” simulator, where you enter the lives of dozens of strangers and invade their privacy; while the second comes from the Granada indie studio Tetera y Kiwi and proposes a retro-futuristic graphic adventure with a “noir” atmosphere where a detective must investigate a brutal murder in a world full of aliens, robots, fallen superheroes, large corporations and conspiracies.
There will also be space for other formats. The Catalan Alike Studio will bring its application Bring You Home; a very visual game aimed at a family audience. Your previous project Love you to bits It was a finalist for the IMGA, IndiePlus and Reboot Develop in addition to winning the Award for Best Video Game in 3D Wire 2015.
This international reference market not only serves as a global showcase for the various projects and works, but the most outstanding works of this edition will be rewarded. A recognition that is consolidated is the Movistar+ Short Project Award. The work awarded with this distinction will obtain the acquisition of the broadcasting rights by Movistar+ for an amount of 9,000 euros for a period of 2 years and an unlimited number of screenings, the first year being exclusive for the aforementioned channel. In addition, the work will officially premiere in the 2018 or 2019 edition of 3D Wire.
The public entity, RTVE, will also award its interactive awards to the best video game project, VR video game and app respectively. These recognitions are granted by the RTVE Interactive Media department; where the selected project can be presented to the RTVE Interactive Directorate.
Series web y transmedia
For its part, the call for transmedia projects has brought together a total of 12 European titles. Among them, the Tequila Works studio will share the details of its The Invisible Hours, one of the deepest narrative experiences available in VR to date.
