Sapec launches two new solutions at IBC: Sivac One UHD, a hardware update of its popular modular encoders, now with HEVC UHD 4K compression; and the Laguna multi-encoder with new configuration variants.

Sapec in IBC 2018

For more than fifteen years now Sapec has always presented in IBC avant-garde and innovative compression solutions, keeping customer needs in mind. This year, it continues along the same lines, presenting at its stand (which has a new location at 1.F56) two solutions that not only provide added value to the existing ones, but also provide value for the future of the client's infrastructure.

The Spanish company has gone further this time, adapting two of the classic product families for the future. One of the leading solutions that is being shown at IBC 2018 is Sivac One UHD.

Based on the family of its popular Sivac One modular encoders, Sapec has updated the hardware to provide a value-added proposition: HEVC UHD 4K compression.

With space for up to three encoder cards in one rack unit it will allow customers to have up to three UHD 4K channels encoded on a modular platform, low consumption and weight and with two hot-removable power supplies (AD or DC).

Each encoder card is independent and hot-swappable, and incorporates a full range of interfaces to suit the different needs of broadcasters.

Multi-encoder platform

The second innovative solution is based on the Laguna multi-encoder with new configuration variants.

Laguna is a multi-encoder platform that allows encode HEVC, H.264 or MPEG-2, in up to 3 independent channels allowing the choice of one MPTS output or three independent SPTS.

Laguna offers the possibility of integrating a DTT or satellite modulator. For example, a DVB-S2x for an uplink, or for terrestrial transmission a DVB, ATSC or an ISDB-T/Tb with REMUX incorporated for a DTT headend. In the latter case, it is also possible to encode a One-seg channel, scaled from one of the main ones.

Laguna therefore has interfaces ASI, IP, 3G y RF, and these can be used simultaneously.

The Laguna platform also inherits all the functionalities that Sapec has developed for years such as logo insertion, N+1 redundancy and much more. The platform, being software-defined, allows for any future updates, not only of the firmware, but is also scalable to future developments and solutions.

Laguna internal architecture with (1) MPTS output

The latest development in this platform is to offer the customer the possibility of choosing 3 independent outputs (SPTS) instead of one multiplexed output (MPTS). This possibility offers the Broadcaster not only savings in CAPEX costs for new installations, but also offers flexibility to existing stations.

In addition, Sapec will have the rest of its solutions on display, such as the Avantos HEVC family of encoders and decoders (4:2:2, 10 bit, HD) and the Gredos family with its Encoder+Modulator and IRD solutions.
