Netflix begins filming in Barcelona for 'Hache', a thriller produced by Weekend Studio
Lives on the edge, glamor and violence in Barcelona in 1960. This is the universe of the new Netflix production created by Verónica Fernández ('Cuéntame', 'El Príncipe', 'Velvet Coleccion') and directed by Jorge Torregrossa ('La vida unexpected', 'Fariña', 'Velvet Coleccion').
Netflix filming has started Ax, his new thriller starring Adriana Ugarte (Juliet, Palm trees in the snow, The Lady, The time between seams), Javier Rey (Isabel, Velvet, Fariña) y Eduardo Noriega (Perfect Strangers, Open your eyes, The Wolf, Thesis), which will be produced by Weekend Studio, production company led by Tomás Cimadevilla and Jorge Iglesias.
Transporting the audience to the beginning of the 60s, the series portrays the hidden side of a Barcelona in full economic and social takeoff. In addition to filming in Barcelona, the technical team will pass through Manresa, Terrasa, Tarragona and other Catalan locations to recreate that era.
Created by Verónica Fernández (Cuéntame, The Prince, Velvet Collection) and directed by Jorge Torregrossa (The unexpected life, Fariña, Velvet Collection), Ax It is a story inspired by real events. The series tells the life of Helena (Adriana Ugarte), a prostitute who begins as a simple pawn in the hands of Malpica (Javier Rey), the head of a mafia gang that operates in Barcelona in 1960. Helena will live a winding learning process that will take her from the lowest rung to assuming control of the heroin trafficking of that same organization.
Among the group of men led by Malpica, the implacable Arístides and the lawyer Julio Senovilla stand out, played respectively by Marc Martínez (To Die or Not, El Mundo de Chema) and Pep Ambròs (El Olivo, Félix, Matadero). The other side of the coin is represented by the incipient Narcotics Brigade; formed by inspector Alejandro Vinuesa, played by Eduardo Noriega, his partner Eladio Pérez, role of Josep Julien (To cakes with life) and Commissioner Clemente Larrubia, played by Àlex Casanovas (Manila). Marina Salas (Three meters above the sky, The boat, I want you) plays Silvia Velasco, secretary of the commissioner.
With its own soul, the Albatros Club will act as the nerve center of the plot. A nightclub where trendy music is played, and foreign visitors mix with young men from Barcelona, disheveled girls and arrogant slums. Also in this place is the operations center of the Malpica gang. In charge of the club is Celeste, played by Ingrid Rubio (Que se mueran los feos, Bajo Sospecha, Velvet). The Albatros's main attraction is singer Julia Bloomsbury, played by British artist Tonia Richardson, accompanied by pianist Ramiro Larrocha, played by Toni Zenet.
The series, made up of 8 50-minute episodes, will premiere globally in 2019.
