Educacine, Madrid International Film and Education Festival, from February 11 to 15

Everything is ready for the start of the VI edition of Educacine, a contest that will screen eleven feature films for Secondary and Baccalaureate students along with their teachers.

The VI edition of Education, Madrid International Film and Education Festival, is held from from Monday, February 11 to Thursday, February 15 of 2019.

This year the screenings will take place at the Verdi Cinemas (Calle de Santa Engracia, 132, Madrid). The event is organized by the film information website decine21.com and the educational information newspaper Magisterium, and is sponsored by CEV, Escuela Superior de Comunicación, Imagen y Sonido de Madrid, UCETAM, Unión de Cooperativas de Enseñanza de Trabajo Asociado de Madrid, Aula Siena y Fundación Diálogos.

Profesores y estudiantes de secundaria y bachillerato tendrán ocasión de visionar títulos de enorme valor educativo. La programación se compone de once películas de temáticas variadas, que pretenden aportar ideas y planteamientos para el desafío educativo que afrontan los profesores a diario.

Como cada año, han sido escogidas por sus valores pedagógicos, y su capacidad para complementar los contenidos de diferentes asignaturas. Todas ellas serán proyectadas en versión original subtitulada, para que los asistentes mejoren su conocimiento de los idiomas, y también para que puedan disfrutar de la interpretación de los actores con sus voces reales.

Proyecciones y presentaciones

La proyección de los filmes, como es habitual, irá precedida de una presentación para lograr un mejor aprovechamiento del visionado. Se complementan con un coloquio posterior en el que intervendrán críticos de cine, expertos en el área temática que trate cada uno y en algunos casos, los propios creadores de cada título, como es el caso de León Siminiani, director de Notes for a heist movie, y Celia Rico Clavellino, directora de Trip to a mother's room.

Este año, el Festival se divide en cuatro secciones. Rebelión en las aulas se compone de filmes que se desarrollan en centros educativos.

The Silent Revolution (German, with Spanish subtitles), by Lars Kraume, adapts the autobiographical book by Dietrich Garstka. The plot takes place in 1956, when a class will challenge the communist regime, keeping a minute of silence for the victims crushed by Soviet tanks in Hungary.

A brilliant reason (French, with Spanish subtitles), by Ivan Attal, with Daniel Auteuil and the young Camélia Jordana, develops the peculiar relationship between a student of Arab origin from the suburbs and a controversial teacher who prepares her for the national debate competition.

Personas It is made up of four feature films about human relationships. Journey to a Mother's Room (Spanish), by Celia Rico Clavellino, stars Anna Castillo and Lola Dueñas. They play a daughter, Leonor, and her mother, Estrella, at a time when the former feels uncomfortable in her job as an ironer and has decided to separate from her mother to work as an au pair in London.

The documentary Notes for a heist movie (Spanish), by León Siminiani, follows the particular encounter between this filmmaker and Flako, the Robin Hood of Vallecas, whom he is going to visit in prison. The author tries to understand the motivation of the criminal.

In Faces and places (francés con subtítulos en español), la veterana realizadora Agnès Varda emprende un viaje con el joven fotógrafo y experto en instalaciones urbanas JR, por diferentes pueblos, donde el segundo toma fotografías que imprime en grandes carteles con los que cubre fachadas y localizaciones con encanto. Por el camino se estrecha la relación entre ambos.

In The thin yellow line (español), del mexicano Celso R. García, un vigilante que se queda sin trabajo acaba dirigiendo una cuadrilla que debe pintar la línea divisoria en una carretera poco transitada. Habla de temas como el trabajo bien hecho, y la camaradería.

La sección Comunicación y nuevas tecnologías presenta dos filmes sobre periodismo y redes sociales. One more day alive (English with Spanish subtitles), by Raúl de la Fuente and Damian Nenow, adapts with cartoons and documentary images the book by the Polish Ryszard Kapuściński, in which he narrates his trip to Angola during the conflict to gain independence from Portugal at the height of the Cold War.

Searching (English with Spanish subtitles), by Aneesh Chaganty, is shot almost entirely with images of computer screens, mobile phones and other devices. Its protagonist is David, a widower who is searching for his daughter Margot, who has disappeared without apparent explanation. She discovers on social media that she didn't know everything about her.

Finally Nature compiles two works about animals, people and their environment. The documentary Barbacana, the footprint of the wolf (Spanish), by Arturo Menor, interweaves three stories that reveal the importance of these predators in the ecosystems in which they live.

The Rider (English with Spanish subtitles), by Chloé Zhao, features the real characters, the family and friends of Brady Jandreau, a rodeo specialist and equine trainer from South Dakota who had to slow down his professional dedication after suffering a serious accident, for which he had to have a plate placed in his head. It offers a human vision, far from clichés, of the rural reality of the United States.

Además, dirigida a los educadores, se proyectará en el Cine Conde Duque Santa Engracia en calidad de preestreno Un rey y su pueblo (francés con subtítulos en español), de Pierre Schoeller, cine histórico sobre la revolución francesa.
