SundanceTV launches the VI edition of its annual short film contest SundanceTV Shorts
In Spain, the contest once again includes the Best Web Series category, which awards the best pilot episode of a digital series.
The television channel SundanceTV presents, for the sixth consecutive year, the contest SundanceTV Shorts, a contest that awards the most brilliant short films internationally.
The Grand Jury Prize-winning short will air internationally on SundanceTV and during the Sundance Film Festival: London, which runs this year from May 30 to June 2.
Movistar+, Fotogramas, the ALMA Screenwriters Union and ECAM (School of Cinema and Audiovisual Communication) join SundanceTV and Sundance Institute as collaborators of the contest and as members of the jury.
In Spain, the contest once again includes the Best Web Series category, which awards the best pilot episode of a digital series. The winner will receive a prize of 2,000 euros for the continuation of his web series and the OpenECAM prize, which offers the possibility of using the ECAM studios, facilities and resources.
According to Geraud Alazard, Senior Vice President of Marketing at AMC Networks International, "the SundanceTV Shorts 2019 contest perfectly reflects the essence of the channel. It offers a platform for independent fiction and celebrates emerging talents. From March 5 to April 16, short films and webisodes can be presented on the page www.sundancetvshorts.com. The works must be sent directly by the producer or director, who must be residents in Spain. Nominations, both short films and pilot episodes of web series, may not exceed 15 minutes in length. In the case of short films, they must be in English or with English subtitles. All the characteristics and details of the contest, as well as the technical requirements, are available on the official website of the contest.
To Mike Plante, Senior Programmer at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, “every year the SundanceTV Shorts competition discovers great short films from various countries, helping us achieve our goal of discovering new talent and sharing their works with an international audience.”
He Grand Jury Prize It is chosen following a series of criteria, including creativity, entertainment, original narrative and production factors. The jury, chaired by Mike Plante of the Sundance Institute, will also include Harold Gronenthal of SundanceTV; Cristina Meléndez, programmer at SundanceTV in Spain; Iñigo Trojaola, head of content for Movistar+'s premium film and series channels; Julieta Martialay, director of Fotogramas; Carlos Muriana, screenwriter and member of the board of directors of the ALMA screenwriters union; Luis Ferrón, Manager of ECAM; and the Spanish filmmaker Roberto Pérez Toledo.
The winner of best short film will take a trip for two to London where their short will be screened during the Sundance Film Festival: London, in addition to being broadcast on the SundanceTV channel internationally. Winners will be announced in May.
