Almost 150,000 people participate in the Malaga Festival
El festival consolida su dimensión internacional. Representantes de 57 países de los cinco continentes integraron la zona de industria del Festival (MAFIZ).
He Malaga Festival ha celebrado su 22 edición del 15 al 24 de marzo de 2019 con un nuevo aumento del número de espectadores y participantes así como de recaudación. Esta edición ha supuesto la consolidación del Festival como evento internacional dedicado al cine en español, al contar con el apoyo expreso del audiovisual iberoamericano, que ha valorado el certamen como estratégico para el sector in the different activities and meetings held around the industry area MAFIZ.
EThe number of films programmed in the 22nd edition has been 221 and the number of sessions, 265. Regarding the activities carried out in 2019 (presentations, meetings, 5 minutes of cinema, concerts, galas, press conferences...), a total of 94 have been carried out, not including the 49 public activities carried out in the Solidarity Space of the Plaza de la Merced by the 33 participating associations.
Los box office revenue and number of spectators have continued to grow in this 22nd edition. Regarding the box office collection, this reaches 177.376,40 euros, which represents a difference of 24,925.50 euros compared to the 152,450.90 euros collected in 2018, almost 16.4% more.
These data come from the internet portal www.unientradas.es, as a mailbox approved for the Festival by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, and also include the closing concert of the group Mastodonte at the Teatro Cervantes and the amounts raised by the activities included in the Pedagogical Area of the Festival (Cinefórum and Cinema for children).
The 22nd edition has had almost 149,000 spectators and participants in its different activities, including the 45,860 tickets issued for the different scheduled screenings –almost 8% more than the 2018 edition–, as well as those attending those other direct access activities, with accreditation or invitation, and the exhibitions, Espacio Solidario, 5 minutes of cinema, masterclass, food trucks, etc.
On the other hand, support for MaF (Málaga Festival), in its 2019 edition, has increased by 3.6% compared to the previous edition. Participation throughout the 165 total activities distributed in more than 60 spaces (held between February 21 and March 14), amounts to more than 46,000 people, compared to the 44,500 people attending in 2018. With these figures, Málaga de Festival, a prologue to the Málaga Festival that celebrates culture with cinema as a plot, consolidates a cultural model based on collaboration and participation between main parts of the cultural fabric of the city, hallmarks that have been reflected in a program focused on several discursive lines: the film Blade Runner, Chavela Vargas, feminism and the 50th anniversary of SICAB.
These data show a cumulative total (22 Festival and MaF) of around 195,000 spectators and participants in the different activities linked to the Malaga Festival, that is, 5% more than in 2018, when the total number was approximately 185,500.
The people accredited in the 22nd edition of the Festival have been 2,956, of which 1,153 correspond to Guests, 328 to Industry, 525 to MAFIZ, 178 to film schools and 772 to press professionals corresponding to a total of 317 media, of which it is worth highlighting the 23 foreign media that have covered the Festival, from countries such as Argentina, Mexico, Denmark, Algeria, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, France, Uruguay, Italy and the United States, among others.
Málaga Film Festival Industry Zone
In 2019, the Malaga Festival has consolidated its industry area MAFIZ (Málaga Festival Industry Zone), which encompasses a set of events designed to strengthen Spanish and Latin American film productions.
MAFIZ está constituida por seis eventos que promueven la financiación, coproducción, distribución y venta del cine en español, todo ello desde el apoyo e impulso al nuevo talento audiovisual iberoamericano en su consideración de objetivo transversal para esta amplia área industrial. Así, a Spanish Screenings – Málaga de Cine, el núcleo central de MAFIZ dedicado en exclusiva al cine español, se unen ahora MAFF (Málaga Festival Fund & Coproduction Event), LatinAmerican Focus –foro bilateral de coproducción, este año con Argentina como país invitado–, Málaga Docs, Málaga Work in Progress y Málaga Talent. Todos ellos eventos diseñados para crear puentes entre la industria y el talento, entre España e Iberoamérica.
The 23rd edition of the festival will take place from March 13 to 22, 2020.
