The Association of Advertising Film Producers of Spain (APCP) presents the 'Study on the Economic Impact of Advertising Production in Spain' prepared by Scopen.

Filming

The estimated turnover volume of the Advertising Film Production sector in Spain is around 457 million euros, 4% more than in recent years, according to the Study on the Economic Impact of Advertising Production in Spainhas been prepared by Scopen for the Association of Advertising Film Producers of Spain (APCP).

The average turnover per production company exceeds 4 million euros, which would mean a 7% decrease with respect to the previous edition. The entry of a greater number of medium and small producers could explain this decline.

Los Foreign clients account for 44% of income with 199 million. It decreases significantly compared to the previous edition. On the contrary, billing from Spanish clients (which accounts for 56% of income) has grown.

By Communities

Filming in Spain, for both Spanish and foreign clients, occurs mostly in the Community of Madrid (41%), which surpasses for the first time Catalonia (40%). They are followed by Andalusia (5%) and the Balearic Islands (4%).

As for the investment that has left advertising production in Spain, in 2019, is estimated at 210 million euros, among other items, in rental of materials, image rights, post-production... A figure that represents 46% of the total billing volume. Compared to the previous edition, the average investment per production company has decreased by around 19% in the last two years (from 1.7 million in 2017 to 1.4 million euros in 2019).

The total number of personnel expenses amounts to more than 207 million euros (accounts for 46% of total turnover). Self-employed workers, adding positions generated directly and indirectly, account for 83% of this expense. While self-employed workers represent 17% of total personnel expenses. Compared to the previous report, personnel expenses have increased by 9%,

Finally, it should be noted that the volume of personnel expenses increases while the number of jobs decreases. A possible explanation could be the greater number of paid jobs created (74% in 2019 vs. 60% in 2017), positions that represent a greater expense for production companies. Scopen in its report also points out that this variation could be explained by the longer duration (in days) of the contracts made during this period.
