The president and CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), Gordon Smith, has announced that following the cancellation of NAB 2020 that was to be held from April 18 to 22 in Las Vegas due to the global coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, the association has chosen to offer a digital offer that will be called NAB Show Express while the next edition of NAB Show New York, scheduled for October 21 and 22.

Smith said: “While we recognize that much of our events community is focused on other issues at this time, we heard from many of you last week who are awaiting an update on our plans. For that reason, we wanted to convey now that, in light of the current circumstances, it is impossible to carry out a rescheduling of the NAB Show 2020 this year. “Instead, we will proceed with a two-pronged approach to deliver the greatest possible value in these circumstances to our exhibitors, partners and the broadcast industry as a whole.”

“Firstly, we are exploring various ways to bring the industry online, both in the short and long term. We know from our experience over many years serving the community with live events that connectivity is vital to the health and success of the industry. That's why we're excited to announce the NAB Show Express, scheduled to launch in April 2020. This digital experience will provide a channel for our exhibitors to share information, announcements and product demonstrations, as well as provide educational content from the original selection of the programming planned for the live event in Las Vegas and creating opportunities for the community to interact virtually, all of which results in something that unites the NAB Show community in a new way.”

NAB has also announced that its usual edition in New York will be enriched this year with new programs, partners and experiences. “We have had numerous conversations with partners about expanding their participation, and we have heard from several exhibitors interested in enhancing their presence at this fall's show. “NAB Show New York represents the best opportunity for companies to announce and present their latest innovations and comes at a perfect time for the industry to come together in person to reset, refocus and reactivate as we move forward together,” said Gordon Smith.

“We will have more to say about these efforts in the coming weeks. “This is a unique and challenging situation, but we are committed to working hard to deliver the greatest value possible,” he added.
