Almost half of Spaniards (48.3%) consume online content at least once a week.

The CNMC has analyzed the audiovisual consumption of the Spanish through online payment platforms, such as Netflix, HBO or Amazon Prime Video. At the end of 2019, these types of payment platforms were present in the 40% of homes with Internet access.

He year-on-year growth was almost 28%, according to the latest data from the CNMC Household Panel for the fourth quarter of 2019. In fact, if we compare these data with those of 2016, this increase has been 237%.

It is important to highlight that the data from this survey reflects the market situation before the state of alarm caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The obligation to quarantine at home has led to greater use of streaming platforms and has triggered television consumption.

There are more and more individuals who consume audiovisual content through the Internet (in general, whether open or paid). almost half of Spaniards (48.3%) consumed online content at least once a week. In this sense, short videos are the most common content (55%).
