Six out of ten households with broadband in the US already use connected television

A quarter of these homes already have more than one connected television.

56% of American households with broadband access already have at least one television connected to the Internet, either directly through smart TVs, or indirectly through auxiliary devices, such as video game consoles and Blu-ray players.

This conclusion has been reached TDG in its latest study on penetration of over the top (OTT) services, connected consumers and digital media.

The study also shows that one in four of these homes already have more than one connected television. On the other hand, the penetration of smart television doubled in the last year, going from 12 to 25 percent of total homes.

Regarding the penetration of high definition in American homes, 82%, according to TDG, regularly access HD broadcasts.

The TDG study also highlights the rise in video viewing through game consoles. In the case of Sony PS3 users, they already account for 29% of access to streaming or on-demand videos.

Pay television is once again one of the services that causes the most dissatisfaction among households, along with electricity and fixed broadband, according to the results of the Household Panel of the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) corresponding to the second quarter of 2019. In this way, almost 18% of households expressed little or no satisfaction with pay television. In the case of electricity and fixed broadband, dissatisfied households were 17.5% and 17.2% respectively. Mobile telecommunications services are those that have the best user ratings: the percentage of dissatisfied consumers is around 11%. As has already happened in other waves of the Panel, the data indicate that the main reason for household dissatisfaction with the services is their high price, especially in the case of electricity and gas services: this is the reason given by 93% of households dissatisfied with the electricity service and 87% of households dissatisfied with the gas service. In fixed broadband services, the second reason for complaint is the lack of quality of service (for example, due to supply interruptions) and in telephony the poor perception of customer service. Data from the second quarter of 2019 show less user dissatisfaction with service prices (with the exception of electricity prices). The CNMC Household Panel also collects information on the number of complaints. As has been happening in recent years, the service with the most complaints is fixed broadband (15% of users have complained at some point in a year while a year before that percentage was 17%). Regarding the reasons for the complaints, the main complaint is billing problems, which confirms the trend registered in the last waves of the Panel.
