He Labor Party has promised that if he wins the next elections on December 12 he would nationalize parts of the telecommunications provider's network BT. This operation would be sustained thanks to a series of taxes on technology companies such as Google, Amazon and Facebook and using the Green Transformation fund.
Labor intends to nationalize Openreach, the digital networks division of the country's largest mobile and broadband provider, as well as parts of BT Technology, BT Enterprise and BT Consumer.
The Labor leader, Jeremy Corbyn, assured last Friday that “it is time to make the fastest full fiber broadband free for everyone, in every home and in every corner of the country.”
“By creating the British Broadband "As a public service, we will lead the world in using public investment to transform our country, reduce people's monthly bills, boost our economy and improve people's quality of life," he added. "What was once a luxury is now an essential service," Corbyn stressed in his speech.
For its part, the Conservative Party discredited the British Labor electoral proposal to nationalize broadband internet access.
