A total of 80 projects have applied to the program Aid for cinematographic research Luis García Berlanga, initiative of the Film Academy to support research work related to knowledge of Spanish and Ibero-American cinematography that is framed within the centenary of the birth of the Valencian filmmaker.

After the deadline for submitting applications, on October 1, the committee formed by the screenwriter, writer and vice president of CIMA, Virginia Yagüe, who acts as coordinator; the deputy director of the San Sebastián Festival and doctor in Film theory, analysis and documentation, Maialen Beloki; the director of the Filmoteca de Catalunya and filmmaker Esteve Riambau; the teacher and co-director of the Dones International Film Festival, Marta Selva; and the director, screenwriter and president of the Film Academy, Mariano Barroso, will select the projects that will benefit from the contribution of 12,000 euros (the maximum is three projects).

During the first half of December, the Academy will inform the researchers recognized with the scholarship and the finalists of the selection result.

Of the 80 proposals, 57 have been presented by a single researcher (71.25%) and 23 by a group of researchers (28.75%), which translates into 134 applicants, of which 84 are men (62.68%) and 50 women (37.31%). Besides, 75% of the projects are of Spanish origin and 25% Ibero-American –Ecuador and Venezuela, with 4 each; Argentina 3; Colombia and Costa Rica 2; and Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay and Peru, 1 each.

Aware of the need for support that many fields of historiographic research on Spanish and Ibero-American cinema have, the Academy, in collaboration with the Ibero-American Federation of Film Academies (FIACINE) and the different academies that comprise it, promotes this program that is framed within the Berlanga Year.
