BBC News - New study

April 2023 will be the date on which the two existing news channels for the UK and the rest of the world will BBC become a renewed BBC News.

The new BBC News, broadcast from London during daytime hours and then switched to Singapore y Washington DC, is born from the BBC's objective of creating a “modern, digital and streamlined” organization to offer maximum value to the audience while seeking to achieve maximum profitability as a public service. With new programs focused on multiple platforms, the channel will go on to broadcast around the world, bringing the BBC's trusted journalism to international audiences and providing UK subscribers with ad-free access to a huge range and breadth of international coverage that has not been available to them previously.

Although it is a channel with a global vocation, British viewers will receive specific content at certain times of the day and during certain news programs. A new live and breaking news team will provide a universal news coverage breaking news globally, and, where relevant, a national stream for UK-specific news events, ensuring audiences get the best live video coverage of the news that matters most to them.

The director of BBC News Digital, Oh well Nielsen, explains some of the reasons why the corporation has undertaken this transformation: "Our goal is to create the best live and breaking news service in the world, on our websites, our apps, on BBC iPlayer and on our new television news channel. The way the public consumes the news is changing. In recent years we have seen a huge increase in audiences coming to our live coverage, with tens of millions of people following the pages live when big stories and events occur. (...) “That is why we are investing in new capabilities to cover breaking news, and our news channel and digital teams will work closely to bring the best journalism to audiences both at home and abroad.”
