Mediapro will have virtual production in its centers in Barcelona, ​​New York, Miami and Madrid

Between 2023 and 2024, Mediapro will deploy virtual production technology in all its production centers by launching four 'virtual production' centers in which the latest LED and 'green room' (chroma) technology will be combined.

As announced, coinciding with ISE 2023 In Barcelona, ​​Mediapro will undertake the first phase of the project with the creation of two virtual production studios located in the cities of Barcelona and New York.

Las Barcelona facilities They will be located in the Imagina production center in 22@, the largest urban audiovisual production center in Europe. The set, which will be operational at the end of 2023, will have 500 m² and will have 235 m² of LED screens, achieving a fully immersive stage between walls and ceiling. The space will be complemented with a 'green room' (chroma), to be able to apply the most convenient technology in each case. The investment planned for the Barcelona project is 3.5 million euros.

In the third quarter of this year, it will add a second virtual production center in New York which will be located in the urban area of ​​the city and will have 1,500 m² of facilities. The second phase of this great strategic plan will be completed with the launch, starting in 2024, of two more centers of this type in Miami (United States) and in Madrid.

In subsequent phases, Mediapro will implement this technology in all its production centers. Currently, the group has production centers in Barcelona, ​​Bilbao, Madrid, Valencia, Zaragoza, Buenos Aires, Brussels, Toronto, Bogotá, New York, Miami, Mexico City, Lima and Lisbon. With more than 350,000 m² of facilities.

It is noteworthy that Mediapro currently carries out virtual production in temporary facilities in Madrid and Barcelona.

Advantages of virtual filming

Virtual production is the new filming method in which the real environment is combined, synchronously, with digitally created elements with the technology Unreal Engine. This recording system allows you to explore new audiovisual frontiers, as it offers infinite customization possibilities, but without compromising production.

Filming with virtual production offers multiple advantages, such as being able to recreate, on the same set, a large number of scenarios and situations with a high degree of realism without travel and without the need for long and complex post-production processes. Virtual production allows greater creative control on the part of directors, filmmakers, art directors and cinematographers since they always have the vision of what the final result will be.

This new way of producing content, in addition to the creative and economic advantages, has very positive effects on the environmental impact. According to a Sony Pictures study, a shoot with virtual production means reducing CO2 emissions between 76% and 80% compared to a conventional shooting day.
