South Series - Programming

45 series from 10 countries shape South International Series Festival, which has revealed the content programming that will complement the hundred speakers who will share knowledge during the event's industry forum.

After a selection between half a thousand of titles from all over the world, the South Series Internal Selection Committee has selected the 45 series that will make up the official programming for the public of this first edition of the contest, which will take place from October 6 to 12 in Cádiz. To them are added presentation in different formats such as avances o screenings which, in total, add up to more than sixty titles, both fiction and non-fiction.

The official fiction section will be inaugurated on October 6 by The Law of the Sea, a production by Studio60, RTVE and À Punt that tells the story of the fishing boat 'Francisco y Catalina' from Santa Pola, which in 2006 became the first European boat to rescue 51 sub-Saharan immigrants adrift in international waters of the Mediterranean. They complete the official fiction section Nolly (Quay Street Productions, PBS Masterpiece in association with ITV Studios), Russel T. Davies' new project that tells the story of the rise and fall of Noele Gordon; Intervías (Mediaset España and Alea Medias), a third season of this fiction that will reach prime time on Telecinco; Carthage (24 Draft Studios), an Israeli historical drama and war thriller set in 1942, or Greyhounds (Original from Movistar Plus+ produced by Buendía Studios), which narrates the business and family drama of the Somarriba family and the Galgo Group.

Complete the selection Of Money and Blood (Curiosa Films for Canal + France), a work that revolves around the million-dollar carbon tax fraud; Sawdust, actor's wood (Mediaset España and Producciones Mandarina), a comedy starring Antonio Resines; Power Play (Motlys, Novemberfilm Fremantle), comedy set in the 70s that plays with the conventions of the time; Beguines (Atresmedia TV in collaboration with Buendía Studios), a series inspired by the communities of women who, since the 13th century, defended a life independent of marriage and the church; Soul mate (Endemol Shine Italy and RTI), a story of love, loss and mystery, and Monstrous (Studio Dragon, Climax Studio and TV ING), inspired by a traditional Korean legend.

South Series - Programming Official Nonfiction Section in South Series

National works occupy a very prominent role in the official Non-Fiction section of South Series: Malay. secret operation (RTVE in collaboration with Atlantia Media) reveals unpublished details of the Malaya Case, an operation against political and urban corruption; Bretón, the gaze of the devil (Producciones Cibeles in co-production with RTVE) deals with the murder of two children from Córdoba that shocked public opinion; Macarena (Movistar Plus+ and Producciones del Barrio) claims the legacy of the homonymous song by Los del Río; The Murdochs: empire of influence (CNN Original Series) explores the legacy of media mogul Rubert Murdoch, and The Galindos (Mediaset España, Fénix Media) sheds light on the crime that occurred in the 70s at the Galindos farm.

They are also part of this section On guard: women against crime (Mediaset España, En Cero Coma (Fremantle)), which tells in thriller format cases investigated and solved by elite female investigators in the Civil Guard; The Nadiuska enigma (Atresmedia TV in collaboration with Lavinia), which tells the story of the breakout movie star; The Chevaline Killings: Finding the Missing Piece (Upside Television), a look back at a massacre that occurred in France in 2012, and The Man Who Stole the Scream (Curve Story), which addresses the story of the theft of The scream de Edvard Munch in 1994.

The industrial side of South Series

South Series will also be a meeting point for professionals from the international audiovisual industry and will bring together in Cádiz, between September 9 and 11, a hundreds of experts from the sector who are going to participate in different scheduled meetings and round tables. The objective is to turn the capital of Cadiz into a industry forum attractive and effective, different from the institutionality of other markets and festivals.

To this end, different forums have been designed that range from business, creative innovation, financing or competitive cooperation among the more than thirty activities proposed at this meeting. With focus on United Kingdom, a guest country in this first edition, various experts will shed light on how to produce with this country after Brexit. The market African, European and Latin American They will also be the center of debate. Professionals like Gail Egan, CEO of the Oscar-nominated production company Potboiler Productions, directors Guillem Morales (Inside Nr1, Templanza) or producer Mark Williams (Ozark) are part of a large delegation of Anglo-Saxon professionals in this edition.

South Series also focuses on Africa in this edition and a large representation of professionals from the sector will come to Cádiz to share their business vision. The African delegation will be led by Moses Babadope, Nigerian producer and distributor, Mimi Bartels, production director of FilmOne Studios, a company specializing in the distribution and production of Nigerian audiovisual content, showrunner James Omokwe, director of two of the best-received Nollywood television series in recent years: Ajoche (2018) y Lion (2020) or Femi Odugbemi, CEO of Zuri 24 Media, audiovisual content producer with internationally recognized and distributed titles such as Battleground o Brehrtren, among others.
