Imagine Communications acquires Pixel Power, the broadcasting arm of Rohde & Schwarz
Rohde & Schwarz has decided to divest its broadcast subsidiary Pixel Power, which will strengthen Imagine Communications‘ offering by focusing exclusively on testing, measurement, technology systems, networks and cybersecurity.
This strategic acquisition will enable Imagine to immediately expand its live production ecosystem and broadcast offering by integrating Pixel Power’s software-defined platforms, bringing together complementary approaches, technologies and engineering expertise that are always focused on an IP- and cloud-based future. The acquisition is expected to close in 2025 and is subject to customary closing conditions.
With a development team based in Cambridge, England, Pixel Power has a rich heritage in graphics and playout workflows, as well as advanced multiviewer and monitoring systems. Imagine will maintain the Cambridge facility, combine Pixel Power’s existing support with Imagine’s renowned support and services team, and provide full support to all current global customers and the installed base of Pixel Power platforms. Specifically, the addition of Pixel Power’s Prismon multiviewer will complement the ultra-low latency production capabilities of Imagine’s SNP Multiviewer and enable Imagine to offer the ‘most comprehensive’ portfolio of IP and hybrid IP multiviewer solutions available on the market.
Thorsten Sauer, Chief Executive Officer of Pixel Power and Vice President of Multimedia Solutions at Rohde & Schwarz, are confident that Imagine Communications will be the “right home” for “their continued growth and expansion”. “This move allows us to focus more deeply on our core operations and customer base while ensuring that we pass the reins to a new owner who cares deeply about our customer base and will take the business to the next level,” he explains. His colleague James Gilbert, Deputy CEO of Pixel Power, adds that “our team is energized by the possibilities ahead and ready to help in shaping the next chapter of broadcast technology.”
On behalf of Imagine Communications, John Mailhot, senior vice president of product management, commented that the acquisition “enhances our ability to deliver innovative, business-driving solutions for our customers, and we’re proud to continue building on the strong foundation established under Rohde & Schwarz.”
